Frozen knuckle
Thought it might be useful to let everyone know of a Dupytrens problem that I've just encountered. I started showing evidence of Dupytrens in both hand and Lederhose in both feet over 5 years ago. I had radiation treatment on both hands and feet. It was not successful on my right hand little finger, although has only been limited deterioration elsewhere. I had NA on little finger in 2016 in the UK and again in Germany in 2017. Each time finger returned to 80 degree bend after 6+ months.Over last 6 months I have consulted with 3 separate UK surgeons and all recommended surgery on my finger. I decided to give NA one last try and yesterday saw Dr. Manet Chopin in Paris. Dr. Manet was excellent, but despite her best efforts could only improve my bend by a couple of degrees. The problem is a totally frozen knuckle joint, caused by the Dupytrens restricting the finger's movement over a long period. Dr Manet said that in her opinion, nothing further can be done and that surgery would also be unsuccessful in making any material improvement. The bad news was that nothing could be done. The good news was that I was able to discover this without going through surgery. So beware all, if the joint gets frozen there is no solution.

Re: Frozen knuckle
This is just one reason of many why I go the Surgical method only. I have found that surgery has far better success than the other methods, which only delay what could have been fixed, if not avoided. These other methods other than surgery cause the condition to get worse over time because nothing gets removed (Actual scar tissue of the Disease). I've had multiple surgeries on my hands and fingers & have use of all my fingers. I am going in for two more surgeries in a month, and my Surgeon removes the disease by cutting it out, thus freeing up the tendons and internal tissue. Once fingers get to the point yours is in, my Surgeon, as well as other surgeon's have told me that amputation is the only solution for a disfigured, unusable finger. It's too bad that you waited to the point of no return now. I wish you luck my friend.

Re: Frozen knuckle
Hi allanbconway,
what you are describing is not uncommon for lang Lasting contructure. If you have a good Hand surgeon or therapist, and if you are ready to do this for a longer period of tuime (3-6 months) you might still give a dynamic splint a try. Success is not guranteed but in favorable cases the improvement can be amazing : have look at the last example on https://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuyt...-splinting.html.
Good luck to you!
Wolfgang

Re: Frozen knuckle
Metz is, over the last 5 years I have had radiation and 3 NA’s. The second NA was 18 months ago and was quite successful, but the finger contracted after about 6 months. I was surprised that the finger knuckle became frozen so quickly. I certainly hope to avoid amputation best Allan

Re: Frozen knuckle
It's difficult to recommend a specific product because the splint must be convenient to wear and each hand is different. You might ask your doctor/hand surgeon or search the internet for a supplier. Right now I am testing a German product from Ruck Medicalrec. I took me a while to get used to it and learn how to adjust it to my finger but now I am wearing about 2 hours per day. I expect that it will take another couple of months to show any effect, if there is one at all.
