What medical specialist is best for LD?
When my first nodule showed up in my foot, I scheduled an appointment with a podiatrist. I really liked the guy, but over the course of a year I realized he doesn't know much about this disease or treatment for it. Basically, he just wanted to inject me with steroids until he could convince me to let him do surgery on my foot. After having 6 injections with very little results other than minor relief from inflammation and much conversation where he has revealed his lack of understanding of the disease, I have decided I need to see someone else. Is a podiatrist the best choice or are there other doctors I should be considering?

Hello NenaCindy,
Seems we are our own doctors with this disease, at least that is what I feel. My Podiatrist had no clue and I still had to pay the consultation fee. Foot Surgeon most likely will want to do surgery, which should be your last resort, from what I have read.
Start reading, there is so much info on this site. Don't panic.
I have one nodule on each foot. I am watching them and should they give me more grief, slowy but surely they are doing that now, I will have them zapped. Have you looked into RT?
I had both my hands already treated with RT and now wait and see with my feet when the time is right.

I agree with Christy. Consider RT and see if it is something that you think would work. It has worked for others with Ledderhose's. If you can get one of the doctors listed on this website to look at you feet, they at least know about Dupuytren's.

Hi, Like many others I am new to this site. I do not suffer with this awful disease but 2 of my family do. My husband (59) has DD in both hands, has had 2 operations on 1 hand and just had first operation on his other hand. Around the same time as this last op we discovered that my son Charlie, who is only 23, has LD with a nodule in each foot. They first became noticeable about 1 year ago, but have only just been diagnosed. When the doctor informed him that it was related to Dupuytrens I thought it was time to do some research to see how he could be helped.
I have been reading many of the forums, personal experiences, treatments etc on this site as well as doing some personal research.
My main question is - is he too young for RT???? Most of the people on this site seem to be middle age so not sure what can be done for a 23 year old?
We are in country NSW but my son is in Sydney - is there anybody in Sydney that you would suggest seeing, either regarding RT or a rheumatologist as a medical friend suggested? I believe there is a Dr Foster at The San in Sydney that has just started using RT, does anybody know anything about him?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have given RT some thought, but haven't been able to find anyone to do it where I live. I am about 60 miles south of Louisville in Kentucky. I had hoped there might be someone in Louisville doing it, but no luck. My employer won't approve time off to travel somewhere to have it done, and I am not sure about my insurance coverage. I was just hoping there was some other type of doctor that I could go to that might have some other options for me other than steroid injections. I guess I just sit and wait and see for a while longer.

I have located a doctor in Louisville doing cryosurgery, but after looking at pictures of it on this forum...I don't know if I could go through with it. It looks really painful. Thanks for the suggestions though, I appreciate them.

I have 2 nodules in my right foot. The big one is peach pit sized and has been there for about a year and a half. It started out much smaller, but has grown steadily. The baby is pea sized or smaller, but it is the one that gives me the most problems. The big one is located more in my arch and aside from hitting the floor first when I walk barefoot, and occasional inflammation, it doesn't bother me much. The smaller one is located behind the ball of my foot and it must be near a nerve because one wrong step and boy do I know it. I get swelling around this area quite a bit, especially when I work very many 12 hour shifts.

Hi Annie 23 is young but not as young as some - my daughter is just 8 and has a pf in her foot following trauma to it when she was 18 months old - dups & ledderhose runs thoughout my family. Ellen had hers operated on but with in 6 months it was back. We are resisting surgery & radio therapy in the hope that once she is older & it is causing more problems a miracle cure will have come along. From my under standing and don't quote me but i believe that it is the adolescent yers you need to avoid with radio therapy.
