N.A in Australia
Hello I am new here. I have already had surgery on one finger and I now need some more work done. The first op left the finger straight but with some nerve loss. I have this disease in almost all fingers so I need help. I would like to find a specialist in Australia who can advise on the NA procedure. Can anybody help. thanks in advance, Phlogiston.

Re: N.A in Australia
Hi phlogiston, If you look at the biospecific site (possibly Wolfgang has put it on this site) you will see Dr David Hunter Smith in Mornington, victoria has attempted NA. But as he has had no formal training others felt some caution until he had further training. In Australia I've found most hand specialist know of NA & will only use it in desperation on people who they deem at risk with hand surgery. We need to keep at them to get NA, radiation and other early interventions recognised. Good luck .dirk

Re: N.A in Australia
You might search in this forum for "Mornington" with option "search in topics and answers" on. This will provide you with probably all posts on Dr. David Hunter Smith. GWB on 05/30/06 cites a statement from Dr. Smith describing his medical background and approach to treating Dupuytren. Roy mentions on 07/06/05 that Dr. Smith had treated 12 hands with NA at this point. It should be many more by now.
It is understandable that patients prefer NA by MDs who have been trained in Paris and this has been discussed and stated extensively in the old BioS forum. But of course it does not exclude that someone, specifically a hand surgeon, does a good job with NA without being trained in France. Actually none of the German doctors offering NA is French trained and some do an amazingly good job. I believe Eaton and Denkler are now offering training in NA and I would trust them as much as the French doctors to provide good training.
