New member, 34deg little finger PIP, cord running to wrist
Hi,
New member here, 56 yo male. No evidence of DD anywhere in my ancestry. Two years ago started having pain in my left hand little finger, between where it attaches to the hand, and the PIP. Also itchy palm (but never received the money! ). Steadily the DD progressed, until today where the PIP has nodule along the outer edge, and a cord running along the palm to the wrist.
Got to the point where a pencil easily passed beneath the PIP so brought it up during a physical exam w/ my GP, who confirmed DD and referred me to a therapist at an occupational therapy office.
She examined, found 34deg contraction, made up a splint to wear at night, and has me doing finger exercises several times a day with a putty to strengthen fingers. She also confirmed tennis elbow on the same side. Warned me that the DD will not go away, best it could do is slow down/stop, but might (probably would) resume at any point. Then it would be time to see a hand surgeon.
I completed the series of 3 1x/week sessions with her. At the 2nd session we were both surprised to measure a 17deg contraction. Wow! Mostly from the splint we figured.
Third session she did some ultrasound on it, and massaged the nodule and cord afterward, using small patches of a (silicone?) sheet between the area and the massaging finger. Seemed to have left the cord a little softer and more pliable. She gave me a few of the patches to try on my own.
So for the time being I am pleased to see that improvement and feel that it is not uncontrollably progressing! I can gladly live with the splint as long as it gives results like this.

Re: New member, 34deg little finger PIP, cord running to wrist
Hi munheca
Thanks for sharing your story. Make sure you check out all the treatment options, in case it does show signs of progressing, their pros and cons, availability, and experiences of others. Your experience with hand therapy and some improvement is interesting. No harm in trying some of the simpler and inexpensive things other people report anecdotally. But stay away from the magic, and expensive, cures.
Best wishes SB

Yes, thank you for your advice SB, the therapist repeatedly stated that what we were doing was not a cure, and that the DD could flare up at any time and probably would. Then contacting the hand surgeon would be necessary. She described three modalities the hand surgeon could perform: Injections, needle "slicing" of the cord, or open surgery. She did not mention radiation therapy.

Re: New member, 34deg little finger PIP, cord running to wrist
Hi munheca
Do yourself one little favour, try this remedy for 2 week, it costs you next to nothing in money and time.
I'll keep it short.
The idea is simply to topically apply Fresh Ginger Root Juice into you hands and let it dry on.
Rub off any residue.
Do this at least Morning and Evening (or at least 4 hrs apart) for a week or 2, I trust that the results will provide you positive returns.
All I ask of you is that you return to report it as a quack or beneficial remedy - I believe it will open your eyes to what D.D. really is.

Pedro, seems easy enough. What is the theory behind it? Are you the only one who has had good results from this?

Read my thread in the "Other Treatments" forum -> Re: DUPUYTREN's CONTRACTURE - A Simple Remedy - Massage, Ginger and Knowledge ...
... I explain all there, I do not know of anyone who has used it, was a remedy that more or less came to me after I was diagnosed, prior to that I had no clue as to what I was dealing with.
If you have any questions after the read feel free to pose them, if I can answer them I will - has only been just over a month and a half of use for me and the unexpected results amaze me.
