New problems

I had the left hand operated on last year and it turned out to be of no help. In some ways the results were worse than before with more knots than I started with in left hand. Now it has moved on to the right hand and every morning I have extreme pain and the middle finger locked down. I get it to release but the pain stays for the day and I have some lockdowns during the day. I now feel the knots on my feet and when I am on my feet all day working the pain gets pretty bad. I have had operation for carpel tunnel and many injections. Any suggestions for the next step would be appreciated.

Re: New problems

texlib,

What was your hand like before the surgery? How much were your finger(s) contracted? What kind of a surgeon did the surgery?

Re: New problems

I was having trigger finger for the middle finger, some pain and cords on the left hand. I had the surgery that they cut open the palm and worked on knots and cords. It was a hand specialist that has the best reputation in the Austin Texas area. I did see his PA most of the time and he wrote up notes on the wrong hand and I caught it and made them mark which hand and which fingers before cutting. The followup was not to my standards but he did say it would take time. 8 months later there is still some numbness, all cords and knots are still there and new ones have formed. New ones on the right hand in the last two weeks and real pain in the wrist.

Re: New problems

Was the surgery for trigger finger, or was the surgery for Dupuytren's? They are two completely different conditions. If the surgery was for Dupuytren's, the cords would have been completely removed with all of the surrounding diseased tissue.

Re: New problems

From what the Dr. said the tried to remove the tissue around the cords and the knots. The cords are worse than before and the knots and enlarged.

Re: New problems

In Dupuytren's surgery the cords would have been completely removed. That is why I am wondering what the surgery was for. Something just doesn't sound right.

You said, "every morning I have extreme pain and the middle finger locked down. I get it to release but the pain stays for the day and I have some lockdowns during the day."

That is not Dupuytren's.

Re: New problems

I can only go by what my Primary Dr. and the hand Dr. say and both said it was dupuytren. I guess the original cut was for the trigger finger but they both say the cause was dupuytren. The middle finger, the next finger and the little finger are all being pulled down at different degrees. The middle finger is the worst of both hands. Try stretching them every day as per by diabetic doctor that says dupuytren and being diabetic is not always a good combination. I had never heard of dupuytren until all of this started.

Re: New problems

From what you describe it certainly seems like you have something with the Dupuytren's. But, I doubt that they did surgery for the Dupuytren's. What have they suggested for followup treatment for the Dupuytren's?

When your hand is not affected during the day can you flex it so you can lay it flat on a table?
