Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)

The catechin EGCG is said to be able to help with a variety of maladies, including keloids and other growth disorders. I wonder whether there has been any experimentation with Depuytren's.

Edit: I just came across this http://citation.allacademic.com/meta/p_m...7759_index.html

Hi Jeff,

I read the study and it does sound interesting. Once a dose of EGCG is recommended it could help slow down the advancement of early stage DD. that is the problem some of us don't even know we have DD until we are in the latter stages. The study show that EGCG can help prevent the formation of lattice shape cells in early DD where less cells are involved.
I'm thinking green tea is a anti inflammatory, this is a good reason for adding it as a supplement to daily diet.
THANKX for sharing. This gives new hope!

Keep us posted.

Hello Cherise
I'm sorry to hear how tough your experiences have been to date. Thank you for your posts - I have found them helpful.

I drink a great deal of green tea, and have done so for several years, but still developed Ledderhose last year, so can't say that is helping me prevent anything.

I'm planning to try the Ginger tea and rubbing ginger slices method to see if that is at all helpful.

I have had one round of radiation therapy and are scheduled to have the second in early July. It is now week 3 following the first round of RT. The pain has been very much reduced till yesterday. But I am now experiencing some pain in my feet and up my legs again. It's minor, but nevertheless disappointing. The nodules in my feet don't seem to have reduced in size, but strangely seem to fluctuate in size, sometimes seeming to be quite small and at others, back to the usual size.
Not sure if everyone experiences this.

Best wishes to you.

Hi Rajput1,

I have read the struggles you have been thru & it's not easy. I have had LH in my feet and have not treated it in any way.
I wear extra support soft inserts & soft shoes that take the pressure off the arch & tendon. Specially designed for arch issues. Many shoes online to choose from.
As for treatment on my feet, It's a wait and see at this point. Although most days feet are very tender. & stiff. I never walk without my shoes or barefoot, if I do it's like waking on spikes. Over the years I have learned to use arch supports & cushions in my shoes, tried many types until I found one that workers well for me.

The green tea in most studies requires 8 -16 cups a day which can cause side effects, nausea and heartburn. I drink green tea for many reasons as well as take the supplements. Green tea (EGCG) apparently is therapeutic in a broad range of disorders. Doesn't seem to slow down my DD or LH as I am in the latter stages, as the study refers to low cell early stage range for successful treatment.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), also known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate, is the ester of epigallocatechin and gallic acid, and is a type of catechin, ( antioxidant ). It is used in studies for any number of diseases.
EGCG, the most abundant catechin in tea, is a polyphenol under basic research for its potential to affect human health and disease. EGCG is used in many dietary supplements. Other foods have EGCG and white tea. If the antioxidant has any benefits in my case for this disease taken supplements orally for many years, it has not been effective.

I hope treatment works out for you. I know the many difficult decisions that we face for the treatments available, most of which may or may not help. It's always a risk.... this is such a fickle disease.

Sending positive healing thoughts your way.
Kind Regards,
Cherise
