Radiation in San Diego

Hi Everyone,

I have been diagnosed with Dupuytren's. My finger(s) haven't begun to contract yet but the dimple on my palm is growing larger. I have made an appointment to see the radiation person in La Jolla next Tuesday 11/17/09. Has anyone on this forum had radiation done by Dr.Tripunineni? I tried to email Flojo but she didn't reply. I would appreciate any information on this clinic. Thank you. Gary

Re: Radiation in San Diego

Flojo called me today and assured me I was on the right track. I will go through with my appointment Tuesday and start the radiation. I pray to God it works.

Re: Radiation in San Diego

I have just completed one week of radiation at Scripps La Jolla with Dr. Tripuraneni, and will do another five treatments next week. I hope this treatment will be successful, its too soon to tell.

If you look in this forum under Dupuytrens, there are many posts of people who have had treatment with him and have posted positive results. All I can say so far, is that Dr. T. seems extremely knowledgeable, is very personable and all his staff is efficient and wonderful. I wish you good luck.

Re: Radiation in San Diego

I met Dr. Tripuraneni Tuesday and he said I was a good candidate for radiation. His staff did a CT scan on my hand and my treatments start this coming Tuesday. I hope and pray this works. I will keep you informed of my progress. Thanks to all and especially to you Flojo who took the time to call me and give me the confidence to proceed.

I am glad RT is an option for you. Please keep us posted about the results and the changes you see in your hand.

Re: Radiation in San Diego

Yesterday, I completed my second week of radiation treatment at Scripps La Jolla . There are no dramatic changes yet, although I think that a few of the nodules are flatter and softer, others are the same for now.......I am hoping that it will continue to improve up to 6 to 8 weeks after treatment (flojo posted on this forum that that's what happened to her).

My main objective is for the radiation to stop the progression of the disease in the hopes that there will be no contraction of the fingers in the future.

As improvement occurs, I will post again.

Re: Radiation in San Diego

I hope progression of your Dupuytren's is stopped by RT. I think there is an excellent chance that it will stop it. The icing on the cake will be regression of nodules. It was very gradual for me.
I look forward to hearing: #1, there is no more progression of the disease and #2, that there will be regression of the nodules or other symptoms.

Re: Radiation in San Diego

I have completed the 10 treatments of radiation. My hand ached before I started and after the 2nd treatment the ache subsided. It is still sensitive but not like it was. The nodules are still there and appear to have "white caps" over them. The nodules feel like they are in remission. I have noticed that I use my hand more now than before. I imagine that is because there is less pain.

Not much more to report at this time. I have a followup appointment with the Dr. in January and I will report back to this forum then.

Re: Radiation in San Diego

Its been three weeks since I completed my 2 week treatment with Dr. T. in La Jolla. I had some really "nasty" and "hard" nodules in the middle of my palm just below the middle and ring fingers. I also had a small nodule at the base and a very small, thin cord running from the MCP to the PIP joint (palm side) of the pointer finger.

There is definitely remission in the nodules in my palm and the small nodule at pointer finger, and the small cord is almost gone....and I continue to see improvement. I am now able to open my hand much more. I am really satisfied with the results so far, and as mentioned here, by Flojo, I hope there will be continued improvement for another period of time.

In March I plan to re-do NA on my OTHER hand with Dr. Eaton, and follow it up immediately with radiotherapy by Dr. T. in La Jolla.
