Verapamil 15% Gel
Here's a prescription medicine for Dupuytren's I just learned of a few days ago. Link is Verapamil 15% Gel.
It is a compounded medicine that you apply to your hand, and is only available through the cited company. I just had Xiaflex on my left hand a month ago, and asked my Ortho doctor about this when I came back for followup. He said he never heard of it. We talked about it for a while, and I decided not to try to get a prescription for it at the present time.
My reasons:
- It is expensive (another Xiaflex)? - I guess you would have to use it for the rest of your life ??? - It is only available directly from the manufacturer. - Looks like it is more effective for Peyronie's, and since that is a similar condition, they are saying it is effective for DC. - It doesn't seem to be commonly used, and may not be covered by all insurance plans (for mine, it would be a $17 copay and $8 shipping). But it is not covered by Medicare Part D -- that would cost you $129 plus $8 for a month's supply (and I guess that would be for just one hand).
But, I thought I'd let you all (or yinz, as we would say from where I grew up) know it's out there. Would like to here comments from anyone who has tried it.

Re: Verapamil 15% Gel
If you search the forum you can find plenty of stories of people trying it, especially for Ledderhose. There's no clear evidence that it is an effective treatment though for all.

Re: Verapamil 15% Gel
Hi all --
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. We had our own lingo there. Thanks to everyone for the comments on Verapamil. That subject is still in the back of my mind.
