Radiotherapy in Calgary?
It seems that everyone goes to Germany. They supposedly offer radiotherapy in Calgary - Canada has a national health system similar Germany.
Has anyone out there had radiotherapy in Calgary?
Thanks Dave

Its not a matter of available technique or costs, its always a matter of SKILLS - to EXAMINE, to EVALUATE and to CHOOSE the RIGHT TREATMENT - which all accounts for one thing : EXPERIENCE available from doctors with long-term daily practice with this disease ...

Re: Radiotherapy in Calgary?
Hi Larry, I too would like to know about Calgary's services.
I live in Winnipeg, had surgery on BOTH feet in August. Still quite painful, and very lumpy, not at all sure if thats just the healing process, or if something is wrong. I certainly wouldn't go through the surgery again!

I had Dupuytren surgery on my left hand seven months ago. My hand and fingers were swollen for six months and finger joints still a little painful with weather changes. I can now close my hand about 90% and improving with dedicated home therapy daily; the healing process is very slow for me. I also purchased a mini hand vibrator from www.beabletodo.com item number NC70209 which I use every day to manage the scar tissue. Managing the scar tissue in my opinion is the most important therapy one can do to achieve recovery. The scar tissue will not go away by itself and will restrict tendons from gliding freely. Even after seven months I massage the scar with the hand vibrator using E-oil to reduce friction. I also do the exercises my recommended by my therapist daily. I made a visit to my therapist last month and she was amazed the scar tissue was barely noticeable. P.S. I also wish doctors would visit this site... Jerry

Re: Radiotherapy in Calgary?
Saw my doctor here in Saskatoon yesterday (Orthopaedic Surgeon). He will refer me to a hand specialist. Apparently they still only do the surgery here but no radiation therapy. Doesn't sound like there are alternatives in place yet. Lucky me, he told me my trigger finger has reocurred and that I have arthritis as well as dupytren all in the same hand. Not looking forward to any more surgery on my hand as it took so long for the scar to be manageable after carpal tunnel release. I am a keloid former and had hypertrophic scarring after the release on my right hand. Can not afford to take any more time off work. (I actually like my job as well.)

Re: Radiotherapy in Calgary?
Hmmm....managaing scar tissue! There was no talk from the surgeon or my referring doctor about therapy or managing scar tissue. I was only told to stay off my feet for a week or so. Interesting! I am seeing my doctor next week and will definitely inquire about therapy.

Re: Radiotherapy in Calgary?
Bobcat7: I contacted the Calgary doctor mentioned in this thread via email. If I hear anything back or find a radiotherapy doctor locally I'll let you know. Best of luck!

Re: Radiotherapy in Calgary?
There is no good chance to get excellent medicine for 1-hour travel or cheap costs ... in the end there is nothing to loose, except of your hands or feet health, which you need to the end of your life ! I am still satisfied with my decision to get radiotherapy by an expert, being f frustrated from surgery to begin with ! Good decisions, otherwise good luck! Larry
