Ring finger locking in mornings
Hi. I've had a module in my ledt hand palm for 12 years now. Can put my hand flat on table and bend fingers. Lately when I wake up my ring finger is closed and I have to force it to straighten, when I,do it clicks . Anyone else have it. Any suggestions? Much thanks Julian , 53 , Canada

Re: Ring finger locking in mornings
Fingers can get stiff in the morning.. if it is just a single finger, it might be a trigger finger.

How do you know if its Dupytron or Trigger Finger? I've had a module at base of ring finger for 12 years now

Hi Lebowitz You can't really straighten a finger bent by DD without cutting the cord in some way (there are rare exceptions). A trigger finger is a inflammation of the tendon or sheath causing a finger to lock in position, but can be straightened with some external force applied. It is also treatable via steroid injection or splinting before considering surgery. See your doc for more. Your case could be a combination of the two. SB

Appreciate it. Does xiaflex work? Can it treat both?

Xiaflex can be an appropriate treatment for a DD (fixed) contracture caused by a cord. It is not an appropriate treatment for trigger finger. Have you seen a physician to confirm diagnosis?

Re: Ring finger locking in mornings
Sadly I am one of the rare ones that has my ring finger on left hand stuck in 90 degree bend. I’ve had three surgeries on one that hand. Other fingers on left hand are fine. Recently DD started in my right hand with a vengeance. It was causing pointer & middle fingers to contract. Had surgery on that hand last year and fingers did straighten but then went to about a 30 degree bend. Had radiation on both hands last year and am hoping it will “kick in” and stop the progression but I have 3 new nodules and pinky is starting to bend. This is a crazy disease but the support group here helps me so much. Good luck.

Re: Ring finger locking in mornings
I too have DD (palmer fascial fibromatosis), and trigger fingers. After 2 steroid injections which did not help. Had surgery last year in August,2024, on right index and right ring finger for contraction and cord in my palm. Surgery consisted of Right palm limited fasciectomy, right index finger trigger release, right ring finger trigger release and right ring finger flexor tenolysis. I have a very good hand surgeon, and my Occupational Therapist was awesome. Had full use of hand with no problems after therapy completed. Then in December 2024, the Left middle finger began to trigger, received Steroid injection. After 6 months the left middle finger began to trigger aggressively, and a cyst had formed at base of finger where it meets the palm with a very tight cord in the palm. Had my 2nd steroid injection to see if it would help. No help, so I returned to hand surgeon since middle finger trigger was very painful and began to get stuck in bent position, at times I didn't think I could manipulate it to unstick. Then the index and ring fingers began to trigger, requiring surgery. So that being said, I had surgery on my left-hand September 23, 2025. Required Left index finger, middle finger and ring finger trigger release. Left middle finger volar retinacular cyst excision and A2 pulley repair reconstruction. Left palm limited fasciectomy. I am doing well, started occupational therapy October 6, and I know in a short while my hand will be healed and fully useful. I have been reading as much as possible on this Dupuytren's Disease, and it is 50% inherited genes. I don't know of anyone in my family who has this. I also have Osteoarthritis in my hands, plus Autoimmune disorder Thyroid and Polymyalgia Rheumatica.
