RT for DD

Has anyone done RT with negative results? I saw one here but can't find it. My hand surgeon says don't do it. I don't see any doctors who do it in my state and I can't travel just to be assessed in another state. I know it is controversial and sometimes it may work and it may not.

Any information would be appreciated. I know we all don't go to contracture and I want to quit worrying so much since I was just diagnosed. I have now found out I have friends who have had it for years with no contracture. And I have also read it can be genetic and I have a huge family and also a twin and no one has it. I am the healthiest of them all and I get the weirdest things.

Thank you.

Re: RT for DD

A few people have posted on here disappointed with the results. This is true for the FB groups as well. The published rates with a good outcome are around 85%. This usually is based on careful predetermination that the conditions are right for the treatment. Remember it helps with current and active ongoing disease, and does not act as a general preventative measure. It would be great if it 100% helped everyone or we could understand why it does not help some. Surgeons are probably familiar with changes with RT dose intensities used to treat cancer, and may be why they are not keen on RT. The doses used for DD are much lower and much shallower penetration.

Edit to add that most people do not get a contracture. But this may depend on the age first symptoms appear too.
