I'm recently diagnosed with DD now in both hands and it looks LD as well. All of this was followed by a broken wrist and then carpel tunnel surgery. Looking at RT & doctor seems concerned that I could have swelling which might give me carpel tunnel again. She could be just overly cautious, but I look to this forum to see if anyone had significant swelling following their RT.
Thank you so much for your response--tough decision!!
Re: ANYONE HAD SIGNIFICANT HAND SWELLING AFTER RT?
I went through two rounds of RT in Hamburg and experienced no swelling at all. I don't know if this is always the case, but I experienced nothing worse than slightly dry skin.
Re: ANYONE HAD SIGNIFICANT HAND SWELLING AFTER RT?
Hi Lily,
I'm trying to get some similar answers to RT and the possible effects on carpal tunnel. I have had RT; the first round went great. Huge improvement! The second round the field was expanded to capture a nodule at the base of my thumb and unfortunately in doing so I was zapped too far down into the top of my wrist where it clearly agitated my carpal tunnel. Definitely have some swelling there at the wrist. I am trying to determine how much of my pain now is associated with the carpal tunnel or with the cords in my hand that pull and cause nerve pain. Very nervous about pursuing carpal tunnel surgery and causing even more problems with my DC.
Re: ANYONE HAD SIGNIFICANT HAND SWELLING AFTER RT?
Hi Again Lily,
Just want to add that I feel it is very important to make sure the wrist area avoids radiation regardless of carpal tunnel problems. The mask used to screen off this area should be set-up to your individually sized hand.
