Difficulty making a tight fist

Hi folks,

I have confirmed DD in one hand. I've been told to go back to the specialist for surgery once I can no longer place my palm flat on a tabletop, and I'm not there yet. But I am getting a symptom where I am losing the ability to make a tight fist in that hand. When I try to make a tight fist or grip something small tightly, there's a feeling of tightness and discomfort in the palm area and I can't quite close the fist all the way. So I can't grip thin things securely such as a thin rope.

I haven't seen this symptom described anywhere for DD or other hand issue. It's not a nerve-like pain like you may get with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Has anyone experience something similar? Or know if it might be something different to look into?

Re: Difficulty making a tight fist

Hi

My 2p worth: Any swelling/fluid of the hand or fingers? Can you feel a cord in the palm or area of tightness? Have you tried any at home treatments such as icing or using voltarol/diclofenac? Might be general inflammation of ligaments/tendons but maybe see a physio working out of a hand clinic, for further suggestions or referral.

Bese wishes SB
