Can moderate drinking of alcohol effect Dupuytren's disease?

    Alcohol vs. dupytren~sq~s contracture

I have been a moderate consumer of alcohol for years ( now 70 yrs. old ) and have just recently noticed an increase in the size of the nodules in my palm as well as the tightening of the tendons. However, none of my fingers are pulled inward toward my palm, as yet. I do have some discomfort when doing such things as pushups which stretch my palm.
I am sorry I am of no further assistance.

        Drinking and Dupuytren

I do drink, my hand suregeon and internist are both aware of this. There does seem to be a link to liver disease in some cases (also thyroid and diabetes), but they both ruled it out in my case. I have received no advice concerning alchohol vis a vis Dupuyten.

          Scubadiving and Dupe

I have just been diagnosed with Dupe in the palm of my hand
about 6months ago I had my right index finger removed and the nodules grew on my palm shortly after. I work in the field of recreational diving and was wondering if the physiological effects of breathing gases under pressure has any effect on the condition? I am a moderate alchohol drinker and smoke about 10 cigarettes a day.
Has anyone out there any experience with this?

            dupuytrens

I have had my third surgery. Dr. Ambrosia of Knoxville has done my last two. Most evidence seems to indicate it is hereditary in my case and has little to do with diet. However, I am interested in the new research on collagenase. Has anyone used it?

              Just diagnosed :(

I am a 31 year old male, just diagnosed with the disease in my left ring finger. There have been some hints on this forum about alleviating the problem with therapy, or perhaps by reducing alcohol intake or giving up smoking. What is the truth behind this? Are there any websites about the disease that may help me? I'm due for surgery in a few months.

                Alcohol and Dupuytrens

Just diagnosed, in my left hand ring finger. I'm a 43 yr old male. I am told my grandmother developed it in her 60's, and she didn't drink at all. My first thought is that perhaps drinking alcohol causes loss of some minerals which, coupled with a genetic condition, causes the affliction. No evidence about this, but perhaps there's some research somewhere. Perhaps the diuretic effects of coffee can bring it on, as well?

                  Alcohol

I'm a 31 year old Irish male, who likes to have a pint or two. I'm recovering form surgey on right INDEX finger. Is there a link with alchohol? Milldle finger on left is next. Has anyone had treatment at Stoney Brook, good or bad?

                    Alcohol

I have a progressing case in my left hand, not right, They seem to appear over night without trauma to the hand or any known cause. I am an electrician so use the hands extensively. I am a moderate drinker of beer or wine only, no hard stuff. My dad is a tea-totaler (zero alcohol intake) and both of his hands are almost useless with the disease at 80 and he was a preacher. Go figure?
