Pilot~sq~s with Depuytrens

My md and hand surgeon both condemned anything from the internet, yet I still wondered, made the appointment, got the plane ticket with the knowledge that I would make my final decision once there.

The doctor who performed NA on me knew I was nervous so he offered to work on one finger then stop and let me deside if I wanted to continue. After the first finger was done there was no question if I would procede with the others.
When all was done and I left the office with flat hands, and some pretty deep anger towards my family doctor for trying to steer me away from a procedure that he himself had never bothered to investigate, a procedure that I believe is MUCH better then surgery. Coming home on the plane I realized that my family doctor doesn't have time to investigate all new procedures, he's just trying his best and ultimately my health is up to me to understand.

I didn't rush to my doctors office to show him my new hands, just waited until I needed an appointment for something else. He didn't say, 'Oh my God that's amazing!' the way I wanted him to, he just nodded and said nothing. A year after that when I was in for something else he asked to see my hands and told me he had been hearing about NA but was still unsure of it. Two years after that, my hands are starting to curl again, and I want to see Dr Spacek in Quebec so NA will be covered under my medical insurance - but - to see her I must have a referal from my family doctor. When my wife talked to our md about it he said happily that he would have no problem writing a referal.

It took a while but he's come 'round.

Good luck with your decision. Terry
