Stiffness after surgery

I had surgery for my right ring finger on March 7, 2000. After the surgery my hand was immobilized for 10 days. On the 10th day the spint was removed and hand therapy started. My fingers were very stiff and now, 8 months lator, I have virtually no flexibility in the PIP joint of the finger that was operated on AND the two adjoining fingers. My range of motion is MUCH WORSE now than before the surgery. Other web sites indicate that hand therapy should begin "a few days" after surgery. Make sure that your Dr. does not keep your hand immobilized too long.

post op

I too had surgery on my right hand and ring finger. The surgery was on July 13, 2000 and almost 5 weeks later I lost the feeling in all my fingers except the pinkie. The surgical finger had some numbness in it but that I suppose was from the surgery. My Dr has told me that because of the surgery I have developed Carpel Tunnel and I have some RDS. I have the stiffness, pain, numbness and swelling. Nothing has changed over the last three months as my Dr is hoping time will get everything back to normal. I had my hand in a brace for 10 days also in the beginning, but that didn't seem to make a difference.

Have you been going to a hand therapist? They are as important as the surgeon.
