Support Ed from Ireland.

Let's put out support for Ed, In Ireland. He does not have the money to go to France, or Belgium. He is going in Thursday for an appointment with an Orthopedic man in that country. They will probably do surgery. He is only 18 years old, and no family with him, but a good friend that has the same disease. We have all tried to talk him into going to France, or Belgium, or Florida. He can't afford it. He is scared, and worried about the surgery and the outcome. He does need our support.

Costs / Donations

The thread called 'Orthopedic Surgeon Right Place to be going?' Has a rough estimate of cost at about $1,550 with two confirmed donations of totally $200. There is also one 'maybe'. Patty are you willing to kick in money? If 'Yes', then how much? Right now the estimated balance is $1,350 it would be nice if you could state how much you are willing to donate so we could keep a handle on how much might be out there.

Thanks,
Anon

Eddie - Paris / Dr. Lermusiaux is the answer

I sympathize with his money problems and would be glad to help him get NA, but not surgery. He is unfortunate enough to have this very early. My aggressive case took off at 47 and I consider myself "youthful" to have this problem. If they start sawing up his hand this early, he won't be able to use NA to manage it in the future, should it be aggressive, which it probably will (18 - gee, the poor kid).

He's in Ireland - right. He can fly EasyJet/RyanAir or some cheapie airline to London, get the Eurostar to Paris and see Dr. Lermusiaux for only 50 or 60 euros per finger. This could be done for about $700 U.S. dollars. I'm having NA next week for the 5th time in 3 and a half years, so I know what I'm talking about. I'd be glad to pay Dr. Lermusiaux's fee for Eddie if he just gets his butt over there. Kristen

Wow.

Kristen,

This is very generous of you. I have emailed Eddie and asked him to email pictures of his hands to Dr. L asking for an estimate.

My husband has had NA it is a wonderful treatment.

Cheers. Anon.

NA costs forEddie

I don't think $700 sounds too bad. I will provide some financial help. I will follow the threads to see how this goes.

Hi Eddie

Ok, Just got back from Orthopedic Surgeon and my fingers are really sore now after all his bending and twisting.

He has reccomended that i go see a plastic surgeon in refrance to surgery.

He did not give me further details on what is going to be done but i will yet again have to wait to see what the plastic surgeons says.

I am truely amazed at the offer people on these forums are willing to make and it makes me cry at how supportive you are.

In the mean time i will only pray that my hands do not get worse before i see the Plastic Surgeon (aka butcher)
i would feal really bad taking money off people i do not know and this is a real fear that i have.

The Orthopedic said that he felt a Cord and 2 lumps in my hand. And im really worried.

Talk to you soon.

Love and regards Eddie.

Hi Eddie

Dear Eddie,

Thank you for posting. I can understand that you would not feel right in taking money from people you don't know, but it isn't a lot of money, and it's not like we would be sending you off to the pub to raise a pint with your buddies. :-)

We haven't even confirmed that we have enough money to do this. Send your photos to Kristen's doctor like we asked. There is nothing lost in asking questions. If the over all costs are around $700 then I think this is very doable. If the costs are closer to $1,500 then I am not so sure we could raise that amount.

Eddie, people are willing to put a this money forward because of your age, you are young to start the surgery merry-go-round. Many of us realize that one surgery now means more surgery later... scaring... physiotherapy... time off work/studies.... NA is definately the better choice when possible, it will save you a lot of aggravation as an adult. That's why we are willing to do this as a one time thing if you opt to go for it. After that you are on your own.

If this helps...work it off in hours of community service, or donate the same amount to someone else when you are older and more financially stable. One day there may be another person like you who can not afford it at a time when you can.

Support for Eddie

I have Emailed one of the airline ticket sellers and perhaps they will be able to find a compassionate air carrier that will give Eddie a reduced fare if not a free ride. That way he could have the NA rather than the fifty year old butchery.
There must be some civic or church group in his area that would help if we could make them aware of his problem.

Airport

Hi George,

Good idea. The closest airport is Dublin Airport. That gives us a starting point.
