DC does appear in the feet and also the penis. The penis can be treated with a cream.

If your husband truly has hammertoes, I think that is a different condition. By all means read everything you can find on the net or wherever, educate yourselves, before he undergoes the knife. In many cases of hand DC, surgery can and does exacerbate the problem, and after surgery has been done, alternative, less drastic treatments are almost impossible to implement. You can't undo surgery, but you can always try alternatives first and use surgery as a last resort.
