disability

I am a nurse with newly diagnosed DC with right hand and left foot involvement. I'm afraid this disease will interfere with my ability to perform my job and wondered if anyone else has faced this and what they did to protect their income?

Hi Rhonda,

Thanks for asking that very blunt question. There is lots of info on this website about various treatment options and how they affect recovery time which directly affect time off work, some info about workers compensation, but no direct info about long-term disability claims that have been approved by insurance companies.

Dr. Kline an md who is himself a DC sufferer. He has a website www.dupuytrenscenter.com and is a French Trained NA practioner. He could probably directly address your concerns about working in the medical profession with DC.

Hi Ronda,
I started with foot problems and hand problems I put in for disability not knowing what to do as things got worse. I was given it the very first time I aplied. I would rather be working but it is still a help to collect.
Linda Let me know how you do

Wow

Hi Linda,

Could you tell us more about the disability you recieved? There have been others who have asked about disability coverage but to date no one has ever posted that they received it - until you. So please forgive the following barrage of questions....

Is the disability permanent/long term? Are you part of a union? What type of work did you do? (ie: Manual labour?)What country are you from? How old are you? What is/was your curvature? How old were you when you got it? How long have you had it? Have you had one or more surgeries? I'm sorry these questions are so personal, please feel free to skip any that make you uncomfortable, it's just that there are many people out there who suffer from severe DC yet have not recieved disability coverage.
I'm hungering to know what makes a person eligible. Please feel free to add anything I have forgotten. Thanks for considering my questions,

Frances
