Dr. Benhaim & NA
Hi, has anybody had any experience with Dr. Benhaim? After having dupuytrens for 4 years I'm just beginning to have finger contraction. Dr. Benhaim would be the closest since I live in San Diego, but don't recall seeing any postings regarding others experience with him.
Thanks.

LIST OF DOCTORS OFFERING NEEDLE APONEUROTOMY
YV Channel 10 ( in san diego) Carlo LeBeau's Heath piece had info on the Doctor Keith Denkler, M.D in the San Francisco area
good luck in your inquiry
Here is the entire list.
LIST OF DOCTORS OFFERING NEEDLE APONEUROTOMY* TREATMENT FOR DUPUYTRENS CONTRACTURE IN U.S. (Updated 12/11/05) please let us know of any corrections or additions
FOR INTERNATIONAL DOCTORS PERFORMING N.A. see: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/f.badois-dupuytren/html/liste.html
*(N.A. is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for Dupuytrens which effectively breaks the cords which cause contraction of the fingers, thereby releasing them. The procedure has been available in France for many years with an excellent safety record and was introduced in the U.S. in 2003 by Dr. Charles Eaton. Since then a number of other doctors have begun offering N.A. to their patients as an alternative to open hand surgery.

Dr. Benhaim & NA for Dupuytrens Contracture
Chuck:
Like you, I've had Dupuytrens for several years.
My right index finger is now contracting.
I live in Orange County & am also interested in learning about Dr. Benhaim - because I saw his name on the Internet in connection with Needle Aponeurotomy Treatment for Dupuytrens Contracture.
I'll let you know if I hear anything further about him, and would appreciate your letting me know if you hear anything.
Good luck.
Mark D.

Dr. Benhaim Met Dr. Denkler
Hi:
I received an Email from Tom noting that Dr. Benhaim (of UCLA) at least observed Dr. Denkler doing NA for a few days.
I asked Tom if Tom knows whether Dr. Benahim did any NA under Dr. Denkler's supervision. I hope to hear back from Tom about that.
I'd appreciate any other such details that anyone out there has -- because I just scheduled an intial consultation with Dr. Benhaim for early June.

Dr. Benhaim (of UCLA) & NA: Initial Consultation
Hi:
I just set an initial appointment to see Dr. Benhaim (of UCLA, in Los Angeles) next week.
If any of you fellow DC sufferers have a chance, you might want to post a list of questions that you would ask Dr. Benhaim if you were going to visit him for the first time.
I'm new to researching DC (although I was diagnosed over ten years ago). So, I really don't know what to ask Dr. Benhaim - except about his experience with NA.
I can report back to you what Dr. Benhaim says.
Thanks.

Dr. B
Mark,
Please ask:
How long has he been performing NA. How many procedures.
Of those procedures how many involved the PIP joint.
Is he going to Paris to learn more or does he feel that it's not necessary considering his background and his observation of Dr. Denkler doing NA.
How much did it cost per finger; with insurance and "out of network".

High and Tight
Mark,
For me, your invitation to "Ask The Doc." is like throwing a hanging curve ball at Barry Bonds one shy of Hank's Home Run Total.
What I'd want to do is test this guy's confidence level and see where he's really coming from. Pretend you are Mike Wallace with a nasty case of Dupuytren's. With cameras rolling, here's what Wallace would ask before laying down his hand for the least known of the current US NA practitioners:
"Dr. Benhaim. There are only a handful of hand surgeons in the US who currently believe NA has any merit whatsoever. Something less than ten. You are the only one in Southern California who does. How did you learn about it, and what made you decide to explore it's possibilities when 99% of you colleagues (and all of them at UCLA) have not, and still refuse to learn about and offer it?"
Yes Mark, that's the Mike Wallace hardball pitch, high and tight. I'm sure you'll tone that down some......... or not :-)

Dr. Benhaim: Qs for Initial Meeting
Tolucca & Tommy:
Thanks for your help in framing my questions for Dr. Benhaim.
If I had the knowledge of DC that you two guys have, I'd feel more comfortable playing Mike Wallace doing a hardball interview.
As it is, I'll do my best to ferret out some info for all of us.
I'll see Dr. Benhaim on June 7.
Wish me luck.
Mark
