twitching of thumb

I have Dupuytren's on the index finger of the right hand. I have been noticing that the thumb next to that finger seems to be twitching and I have to hold it until it stops. Has anyone else experienced this?

Could it be trigger finger?

Mary-Ann

Could your twitch be trigger finger?

A couple of yrs. ago I had a twitch in my right thumb. It started as a twitch and then started clicking really bad at the base of the thumb (at the joint nearest the palm). My orthopedic doctor diagnosed it as "trigger finger" and said it could be corrected with surgery, but first he tried injecting cortisone at the base of the thumb where the trigger finger was clicking...a couple of days before the surgery the finger stopped clicking and its been ok for over three years. (I was happy to cancel the surgery)

I also have dupuytrens in the same hand...three yrs. after the trigger finger I developed a cord that contracted my pinkie to 40% degrees in the PIP joint....I had NA in July 2006. Shouldn't have waited so long, as PIP corrections of the pinkie sometimes only resolve to 50% improvement of what the contracture was. Had I found this forum sooner I would have had NA earlier.

I am convinced that dupuytrens and trigger finger and/or other injuries to the hand are connected (I also fell twice on that hand and injured two other fingers).

twitching of thumb

Luba,
Thank you for the information. This does start at the base of the thumb. I have had cortisone in the index finger where I have the Duputren's nodule. I will make an appointment and try the cortisone-definitely want to avoid surgery!! Thanks again.

cortisone for nodules

Mary-Anne

Glad to help...hope the cortisone resolves the twitch. I'm interested to find out about the cortisone you had for your nodule on index finger...is that finger already contracted with dupuytrens? where exactly is the nodule? and has the cortisone helped?

I have also Ledderhose nodules on bottom of one foot and have been inquiring on this forum whether a cortisone in the nodules would help shrink them...my DPM thinks it would help...going to see him in two weeks.
