Gun range

Was wondering if anyone on here goes to gun ranges? And if you do what type of handgun do you use? I'm a first time person on using a gun and i'm having a problem finding one that i can use because of DD. Just curious!

Re: Gun range

Has anyone went to the gun ranges yet to use a pistol to help keeping your hand moving. Just thought i would drag this up again to see if anyone is doing this yet?

Re: Gun range

Don't go to a shooting range. Don't know what impact Dups would have. My grip was very weak before RT and seems pretty close to what it was before Dupuytren's. I would think weak grip would affect shooting.

Re: Gun range

Thanks Flojo for info. Surely there is someone out there that goes to gun range with DD. I did find myself a pistol that fits my hand and doing okay with it. Doctors say that this is good therapy on giving hands some strength.

Re: Gun range

Cindy, I am an avid hunter/shooter. So far my Dup's has not affected my ability to shoot, or to hit what I am shooting at. I am right handed & my DD is very mild in my right hand so far. My left hand started getting very aggressive last summer, I am going for my second series of RT in three weeeks.

Flojo, my grip is also very weak in my left hand. How long did it take after RT for your grip to return to normal?

Michael

Re: Gun range

Michael,

Improvement started within a few weeks and continued for several months. I think by 6 months after RT the improvement had pretty much been done. I wouldn't say my grip was as good as it was when I was 25 because of the age factor, but I can open bottles of water OK.

Re: Gun range

Cindy, yes I have several handguns that I shoot pretty often. I have not noticed any changes, but again my right hand is just mildly affected at this point. If I shot left handed I think I would have a problem as my grip in that hand is about 50% less compared to my right hand.

Flojo, thanks for the info. I get SO frustrated when I have to ask my wife to open a jar of salsa!! It's a guy thing!! LOL!!

Re: Gun range

Guess i will have to try and train myself to start shooting left handed then. Because my right hand is the worst so wish me luck

Re: Gun range

I just found out I have DD. I normally shoot about 50 rounds per month out of my .44 magnum, and several hundred 9mm/.45. My DD is bad and I'm only 31. I'm thinking of selling some of my guns since I don't think I can use them anymore. Especially the .44mag!
