I had surgery on 1/18/12 on my pinky finger. I really regret having it done as I am in so much pain and my finger still is not straight. The scar is still beat red and burns all the time. I am going to therphy. I was hoping to find someone else who has gone through this since I don't know if this is normal and how long will my hand be twice the size of the other one. My doctor isn't much help. How long will this last? I am really in pain.
The pain is not normal. What has your doctor said about it? What kind of surgery did you have? What instructions were you given on wound care? Do you have a splint? Have you kept the wound clean? How many stitches did you have?
It was hard to take with my left hand while my right one was against the wall.
It was red and sore. The thing that worried me the most was numbness and stiffness.
I was sure it stuffed. My feeling returned bit by bit and 9 months on it feels like my finger.
It felt like a plastic finger for ages.
It got better in my case, just took longer than I thought.
It is still stiff, but strong. It is still flat ( yay) and it no longer hurts when I shake hands.
I can do boxing with a closed fist without pain.
I also did heaps of stretches daily, still wear a night splint and overall very happy with that job. I was stressed and frustrated about 6-8 weeks in. It was a big job for my surgeon as it had been bent for years and the wound goes right down my palm.
I don't smoke but smokers take longer to heal I'm told.
