I am scared

I have hereditary dupuytren. (I think) My Father had it and had an unsuccessful operation. One of my uncles had his little finger removed.
I am due to see a specialist on the 20th April and I am scared. My right hand is the most affected and I am right handed, however my little finger on the left hand is also affected. I am a female and as far as I know the only female in the family to suffer with the condition. I am worried that even if I go for the operation it may not work. Any thoughts or recommendations will be gratefully appreciated.

Relax

Donna,

You came to the right place ;-)

Do not have your hand operated on before you exhaust the possibilities of NA, which you can learn about on this Form and on:

http://www.handcenter.org/newfile16.htm

Do not listen to *any* hand surgeon who tries to tell you the surgery is the "only" way to go. This opinion comes from an uninformed and rigid bias and is *quite* incorrect.

Re: I am scared

Donna:

Randy's advice is sound.

He is one of our leaders - & is the guy who first told me about the N.A. alternative to surgery.

I had my N.A. last August (done by Dr. Denkler, of UCSF), and I've been cared for locally (by Dr. Benhaim, of UCLA).

The resuls have been great!

Hang in there, and keep reading what folks say on this site!

Re: I am scared

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to the guys that responded with advice regarding Dupuytren. I am still worried, but will still attend the appointment and find out about procedures in England. Will keep you posted.
Many thanks Donna
