Botox, Hyaluronidase, RT for PF/LD?
Hi,
I have bilateral PF that started with my bilat DD flare up about 6 months ago. I have been doing alot of research online, I am lucky and have access to some good online medical sites.
First: there are some anecdotal blogs about podiatrists injecting steroids mixed with hyaluronidase, based on a naturally occurring enzyme that softens connective tissue, into plantar fibromas with some success. I believe plantar fibromas are ledderhose nodules? Second: I read RT has been used for some years for Plantar Fascicits in Germany with some success, although I could not find any studies about this. Third: in Uptodate, there is a small scientific study showing that Botox injected into the 2 areas of the PF, significantly reduced pain in people with Plantar Fascisitis.
I was wondering if anybody out there with PF or LD has had any of these alternative treatments? I understand RT is used alot for true LD.
Thanks, Fjellver

I was diagnosed with plantar fibromatosis..aka Ledderhose Disease. No nodules with plantar fasciitis.

Dear Pinetrees,
How did they make that diagnosis? I thought you had to have nodules for the diagnosis of LD or plantar fibromatosis.
Thanks, Fjellver

Yes, the nodule was there at diagnosis. The diagnosis was easy because I also have DC.

Re: Botox, Hyaluronidase, RT for PF/LD?
Hi Fjellver,
there might be a little confusion in terminology.
"Plantar fasciitis is a painful inflammatory process of the plantar fascia. ... Among non-athletic populations, it is associated with a high body mass index. The pain is usually felt on the underside of the heel and is often most intense with the first steps of the day." (Wikipedia) -- As pinetrees posted there are no nodules associated with plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fibromatosis is the Ledderhose disease (LD). LD is associated with - eventually fairly big - nodules.
These are different diseases, which have different root causes, and their treatments are different, at least to some extent. In our forum we are focussing on Ledderhose disease.
If you are interested in radiotherapy of plantar fibromatosis you will find a lot of posts in this forum on RT of LD. You find some references of medical literature on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radioth...literature.html. Injection of botox is not used for treating LD.
