Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

HI all,

Im just wondering what footwear people find helps thier LD?

I have two nodules one growing, i have been recommended some Clarks Wave shoes, these have a rocker sole a bit like "shape ups" which puts less stress on the tendon and lumps, i got some....and while i think they help , im not sure if they are the best i could get as the arch is quite high.

Im awaiting orthotics so i will use those, but just wondered what you guys wear and find works for you, ie Comfort? I guess its going to be a very wide area as everyones nodules etc will be different?

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

PS ive read walking bare foot is the best idea, is this true for many? I never walk a long distance barefoot so couldnt tell if it helped or not?!

Thanks!

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

For me, a flatter shoe seems to work best since the fibroma on the arch doesn't rub as much as a shoe that has a high arch would. For casual shoes, I have found Sketcher's Go-Walks to be comfortable and also the "barefoot" type athletic shoes from Brooks (PureCadence or PureFlow). For work, I wear a ballet flat, but have to cushion the bunions I have on both feet. Walking barefoot helps the fibroma, but it kind of bothers the other foot issues I have. Clarks and Munro have some fairly comfortable dress shoes that actually are kind of nice looking. Hope that helps.

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

I'm recalling from a couple years back when several commented favorably on the Nike Free line of athletic shoes. These are minimalist shoes and are designed to replicate barefoot running. The 3.0 model has the least cushioning (most barefoot like) and the 7.0 model has the most cushioning. The 5.0 model is in between. I recall Prof S. favored this shoe for his running. Several readers also liked them. Just for what its worth. I don't own any but the 5.0 will probably be my next pair.

Shoes? everything hurts my feet. I can not wear shoes that rub my ankle, I have tailor's bunion(s) so I have to cut holes or take the stitching out at the sides of my shoes. The left tailor's bunion is starting to hurt most of the time. The right one hurts all the time and more.
I have custom orthotics. I have been wearing them every day. I think they are helping the plantar fibromatosis pain. I had started using topical transdermal verapamil 15% cream before the orthotics and I am know the pain was better after using the cream and before the orthotics.
I think the orthotics help my balance, but I already notice they do not feel quite as good. Do not seem to help my balance quite as much. I find it strange that now when I try to use the Arch molds insoles I was usiing before that the bunions feel better, but the built up outer side at the arch that goes to the back of my feet feels too high. I have gotten used to the feeling that my feet were sliding to the outside of the orthotics. So the orthotics are right? I hope so. I still can not find shoes that are quite as wide as the orthotics. Are the orthotics worth the money? I can not say yet. I think that will depend on how long they last. On the paperwork I have it says that another pair made now cost less.
The only shoes I can wear right now are Easy Spirit Travel Time clogs. Nike Pegasus do not feel so bad, but stiching had to be cut, also some of the cheap plastic had to be cut off. I wear xw and they are wide enough but I can not wear them right now because of the ankle, but if you do not have an ankle problem they are worth a try.
How are your orthotics? Do you like them?

This crazy diaease! We're all different! For me, barefoot is the worst! I find if I wear a wedge heel, it takes the pressure off of the fibromas in my arch. Zappos has a brand named ONEX that works the best for me. Right now, I'm wearing an Easy Spirit clog, and that's good. Reef flip flops seem the best.

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

Hi All.

Great info as always. Its so handy this forum!

Jeanie. Im from the UK so need to check but it looks like the skechers go walk range are very promising. Reviews sound very good but seems the sole are very thin so im not sure how this would react if i hit a stone on the fibroma?!! Deffo worth a try though.

Tusk Nike free are also worth a look bit more pricey and also a bit too running like than i wanted but i have heard good things about these.

Fhobbs sorry to hear your pain. I know how you feel. A couple miles today with the wrong shoes and i paid for it. Fibroma has grown im sure. Im yet to receive my orthotics but i have read that some people aren't sure if they help or maybe make things worse. I hope mine help!

Ellenpao thanks im about to research your names provided. I notice alto of you are women, being a man seems to make this harder to find Lol. Greatful for the flip flop reef info. Desperate for some soft flip flops. Might try croc ones?

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

Josef Seibel European Comfort Shoe...makes all the difference for me. I can walk without any problems. Shoes are the key to control this disease for me. Can not have any shoe with arch support.
I do walk barefoot most of the time. Thank god I live in California, where I actually can walk barefoot most of the time.

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

Christl; I have LD in both feet and have had the disease for more than 45 years. I had one growth removed when I was 13-14 but it returned within months.

I now have the arch of both feet pretty much filled with LD growths and I have new growths (Recent) forming behind the toes of my left foot feet. I also sense that it is starting to happen with the other foot.

Shoes; I wear any shoes that work. Over the years I have had many blisters on the LD lumps but I learned to pop them and apply methylated spirits. I haven't had problems with blisters for 15-20 years now.

I have just finished a month in the north island of NZ and have been bare foot most of the time. Feet feel great and not looking forward to putting shoes on when I get on a plane back to Australia on Tuesday.

Re: Footwear, trainers flip flop recommendations?

Prof. Seegenschmiedt told me to walk barefoot. I have always walked barefoot, even as a child. I think that could keep those nodules down, since they are being stumped on all the time. My left arch is also full of LD disease, but as long as I don't wear shoes with arch support, I am ok. I know some LD people can not walk barefoot, so I feel lucky to be able to do that. My feet just don't like shoes.

Seph, great to hear about your NZ trip. My son just got back from a 14 day adventure trip in NZ. He had a fantastic time.
Also you are an inspiration to all of us LD people.
