Pinky PIP Contracture

Hello All,

My right pinky is contracted 90 degrees at the PIP joint.
I have very large nodules above and below the PIP joint and the cord is beneath them.
I have thought NA would not be possible since the cord is not visible.

Yesterday a surgeon suggested surgery over Xiaflex, primarily because Xiaflex is not very effective on the PIP joint and there is a greater chance of rupture of the tendon in the finger.

I have questions and concerns and would appreciate hearing about your experiences.

1 Even though my pinky PIP join is contracted at 90 degrees , if my pinky is bent at the base knuckle (the MPJ joint) I can straigthen out the PIP joint. It seems to me that means the cord in the palm is causing the contracture in the PIP joint.
Maybe NA in the palm would be a better option than sugery?

2 I have a very slight cord in my right ring finger as well as very slight chords in all five fingers in my left hand; none of those other six fingers are contracted.
Will NA on my pinky spur those cords on and cause contractures to the same degree as surgery might?

3 Has anyone had NA done by Dr. Keith Raskin in New York?

Thanks for any and all info or advice.

Best,
Martin

Re: Pinky PIP Contracture

Why are you so hesitant to having surgery? Your situation sounds from your description to be very similar to mine 10 years ago. I had surgery at that time and have had zero regrets.
