Pins and needles!!

Hi,
I have dupuytrens contracture in my left hand following a displaced fracture of my left radius and ulna in 2006. I have some contraction in my little and ring finger on this hand which developed quite quickly after the initial injury but was told to go home and just get on with it!!
I receive no follow up but have to say it hasn't developed much further over the last 3yrs or so, my question is that I have now developed pins and needles in these 2 fingers and partially on my palm, should I be concerned and seeking further medical input?
I also have what the Doctor called cysts at various positions in that arm which they say is all down to the way this injury healed, could these be responsible for the pins and needles?
(I'm 38 now!)

Any insight would be gratefully received

Many thanks
Tara :-)

Re: Pins and needles!!

Hello Tara

I've not heard of Dupuytrens contracture following an arm fracture. Are you sure of the diagnosis and it's not just displaced tendons? Your other symptoms also suggest, to me and I am not a doctor, tendon sheath problems. I have a contracture of a finger, when relaxed, due to tendon damage but can straighten the finger manually. Do you have nodules and cords?

See a hand specialist for a proper diagnosis. Not just an orthopaedic specialist but a hand specialist first.

Best wishes

Re: Pins and needles!!

Hi spanishbuddha,
Thanks for your response, yes I have nodules in the palm of my hand and a cord running up to my ring finger which is the finger that is contracting the most (not sure how to describe it but that finger contracts forward by about 1cm at present) . Certainly looks and feels like all the pics and descriptions I've seen of dupuytrens, I am also diabetic which I know can be a risk factor although on asking my mum, there hasn't been any previous family history as far as she is aware
Am getting quite a bit of pain in fingers at the mo and non-stop pins and needles but don't receive any follow up so notsure if this is expected or not......should I still be seeing someone about this??

Re: Pins and needles!!

Under the Treatment tab at the top, read about Needle aponeurotomy (NA) and Radiotherapy (RT). It sounds like you may be in the early stages and one of those treatments may be well worth considering.
Where do you live - USA, UK, ? If you don't find a clinic near you in the lists under NA and Radiotherapy, post a message on this Forum know and others may know of places/doctors who can provide treatment.
Keep coming back and tell us what is going on with your hand and asking questions.

Re: Pins and needles!!

Tara,

It could be a periferal neuropathy. I would see your Doctor.
