Radiotherapy UK or Germany?

Hi all

I'm new to the forum. I'm 30yo live in the UK and have been diagnosed with Dupuytrens for around 2 years. I currently have cords and nodules in both hands but no contracture as yet.

I am currently looking at radiotherapy as an option to try and slow the progress of the disease and have read through the patient stories of those who have been treated with RT. What is the current thinking on the best place to get RT, from what I have read there are a lot of good stories from treatment in Germany.

Basically the question I am asking is where is currently the best place in Europe to get RT? UK, Germany or elsewhere and does one rate as better than another?

Many thanks

John

Re: Radiotherapy UK or Germany?

Welcome to the Forum, John!

Overall in treating Dupuytren's with RT there is probably more experience in Germany than in the UK. But the treatment protocol itself is straightforward and is likely the same in the UK as in Germany. The benefit of epxerience is mostly in defining the optimal area for Irradiation, meaning to identify all existing nodules and cords. I myself am living in Germany but if I would be in the UK and had an opportunity to get RT locally I would do it. It's so much easier because you usually get a series of 10 treatments.

Re: Radiotherapy UK or Germany?

I live in the UK but had RT in Germany a few years ago. Since then at least two of our doctors, who mostly practice privately, and are now board members of the BDS, have built on the findings of the German publications and increased their own knowledge and experience, and I would not hestitate to be treated by them. I would perhaps pause and ask more questions to one of the NHS doctors who are still in the early days of building their experience of treating DD with RT.
