Relief to hear about others with pain
I really appreciated finding this group. I have had a couple of hand operations for carpal tunnel, and I wonder if I had Dupuytren's in the background at that time. Recently a nurse practioner at my family doctor's office diagnosed me correctly, but she wasn't helpful with the pain. Ah, pain. In bad moments, I would say it rumbles along burning at about a 6 or 7 and then shoots up to 10+ with bolts of electricity. The non-steroid medication does not help at all. I've got an appointment with a surgeon on Monday, so we'll see what he suggests. I'm willing to try anything short of amputation. It's a whole new ballgame.

Welcome CDDodds
It might be worth you searching the forum for 'pain relief' and browsing through the results. I don't think there is anything specific that will jump out, people have suggested and tried: heat, massage, certain drugs, steroid shots, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, NSAID gels, and so on. For non-DD quite mild pain I use a small portable TENS device and swear by it when my back is out. I think you do need the advice of your doctor and possibly if there's no clear treatable cause a referral to a pain clinic.
Best wishes SB

Re: Relief to hear about others with pain
Thank you for your observations. I too would like a minimalist approach, but the pain suggests that something is really wrong. I'll see the hand surgeon Monday and see how conservative he is. I think some radiation or shots might do it. I appreciate the person who said he thought Dupuytren pain can be as severe as kidney stones. I agree. I'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Relief to hear about others with pain
I saw a hand surgeon today. After x-rays he said I had significant arthritis in my left hand, that DD had not cause my pain and that it was most likely acute pain due to arthritic nerve disease. If pain returns I'm to call him for pain medication and also should my hand begin to curl in. He's well respected in this area, so I guess he's to be believed.

Re: Relief to hear about others with pain
I have lots of pain too - I've been using Cold Laser Light Therapy for several months now. My goodness what a God-send! I bought my laser on Amazon for $200 - best $$ I've EVER spent. It also helped with frozen shoulder and a chronically stiff neck. Its also making quick business of an arthritic-like flare up I just got in my hips.....you see, with me, I've long been one big ache-n-pain for so many years. Now, this light - makes life worth living again. 2 thumbs, way up.
