Treatment needed before contractures

I am 41 and noticed a pit in my palm when I stretch my hand out. I don’t have any limitation in extension of my fingers. It’s located between the ring and pinky fingers on the palm. I don’t feel a cord going towards my fingers, but do feel one about 1cm long going towards my wrist.

I am hoping you can advise me whether there is any benefit to treatment at this stage. I would be happy to wait it out, and maybe it’ll never get much worse, but don’t want to miss an opportunity to stop progression when it’s “easy”. I don’t know if hand surgeons will intervene this early, but figured this forum would be a great way to get some info.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Treatment needed before contractures

Hi Chwtom. The only early pre-contracture treatment with an evidence base is RT if done whilst the disease is actively progressing. There are lots of people trying things like magnesium oil, vitamin e oil, bio oil, splinting with and without scar sheets, and so on. Try them if you feel doing something helps your peace of mind, but have a limit on your wallet. There are also commercial websites promoting magical mixtures, I would stay away from them. Did you see the list of know risk factors? If you have some and can avoid or change them that’s something else to do. Wait and see is fine but keep a photo journal with notes of symptoms, of it shows signs of accelerating seek out RT. Best wishes

Re: Treatment needed before contractures

To add to spanishbudda's reply, although it sounds like Dupuytren's first of all I'd get the diagnosis confirmed by a knowledgeable doctor to make sure it isn't something else.
