BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
I have never had foot problems. Thought I felt possible nodules about 4 months ago, but caused no problem. Over Christmas, my right foot bothered me two days in a row enough that I changed shoes even the ones I was wearing had always been comfortable. Checked my foot closely and sure enough - quite evident there are 2 nodules. Need to have a diagnosis then get RT.
Ledderhose victims, please let me know your experiences and suggestions for treatment at this stage.

Re: BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
Sorry Flora your LD is acting up. My advise would be to watch very carefully, get diagnosed and start RT when you have the burning, itching, strange feeling in your foot. I just had my last round of RT in December in both feet, there has not been any changes so far, I guess I have to give it more time to realy know if it worked on my feet or not. Also start wearing good shoes. I just bought a pair of "Josef Seibel", have Clarks, Taos are great, etc. The days of buying shoes for $ 19.95 are over. Prof. S wants me to walk barefoot as much as possible, walk in sand, different surfaces. When my itching/burning got realy bad I used a frozen waterbottle to roll my foot on it, or even held an ice cube on the nodules, that helped.
Best of Luck.

Re: BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
I definitely have this too on both feet and they really can hurt sometimes. I have been so busy and really didn't concentrate on them but now I see they are getting bigger. Any good solutions out there? When you read about ideas nothing seems great. New Dupuytrens solutions of injecting them on hands with something that breaks the tumors up sounds really great but it's not approved yet for feet. Any things that work well for you guys?

Re: BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
PFlynn,
I know that Luba and other members on this site have had radiation therapy (RT) for Ledderhose. I have had RT for my hands and it was very effective in stopping the progression of Dupuytren's. I have an appointment at Loma Linda University Medical Center on March 25th with the radiologist who did RT on my left hand. I anticipate that we will do planning for radiation for Ledderhos on my right foot.
RT is about the only thing known at this time that stops progression when the disease is active. Since mine has symptoms of being active, I believe I am getting it at just the right time. Symptoms I notice are increasing number and size of nodules, bottom of foot feels hot at night, itching of the sole of my foot at night.

Re: BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
To help relieve the pain from a nodule, a podiatrist can make a special foam insert for your shoe.
The podiatrist first warms a foam pad in a toaster oven, then while it's soft he/she presses it to your foot to mold its shape. The podiatrist then trims it to fit in your shoe. If it's trimmed right, it helps relieve pressure on the nodule when you are standing and walking.
It's easy, reasonably cheap, and your insurance might pay for it.

Re: BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
I had RT on both my left hand and left foot approx 2 years ago at VCU with excellent results. The nodules in my hand and the one on my foot have definately decreased in size and there has been no new growth at lease on the left side. I'm starting RT in 2 weeks for the new nodules in my right hand.

I'm so sorry Flora that you have problems with LD now... on top of your DD... The RT treatment I did at Scripps for my left hand and left foot in Nov. 09 was very successful, especially for my LD. What is left of my two hard, marble size nodules on the bottom of my foot, are totally soft and much much smaller, almost non existent. Before the RT I had "constant" itching and burning and that was a clear indication that they were active. I am very happy about the lasting results of the RT for my Ledderhose.
The RT on the left hand was partly successful. The nodules are much softer, some nodules are gone and there are no new nodules in the radiated area, however a few nodules popped up in the web between the thumb and index finger (outside the radiated area), and the pinkie started to contract at the PIP joint (almost identically like my right hand pinkie) even though there is no visible cord doing the pulling and even though they radiated my entire palm of the left hand. I am sure there is a cord doing the pulling of the pinkie but it is deep inside and I can't see it.
Good luck, Flora with your appointment for the upcoming RT. Luba

Re: BUMMER - Feels like Ledderhose nodules causing foot pain
Update - I saw Dr. Katerelos about the nodules on my foot. He palpated, measured them, and took a picture. He wants me to watch and if it begins to progress rapidly, come back. He does not want it to get the size of a marble.
He said the lower extremities are prone to more complications/side effects from radiation. Based on his knowledge about radiation, he would be very specific in targeting the palpable nodules on the foot and do a small area of the nodules without significant margins as in the hands.
I'll keep checking my feet.

If I remember correctly that is what Dr. Tripuraneni did when he did my foot in 2009. He only radiated a very small area around the two nodules with very small margins. It has been over three years and still no recurrence. So far so good...
If it doesn't bother you too much, good idea to just keep an eye on it for now.

Hi Flojo , Did your doctor say why you shouldn't have nodules get bigger than a marble, cause I have nodules on bottom of both feet and they are both quite large.
