nothing to worry about

Had procedure from Dr. Eaton on Friday PM. Back to work on Monday AM. Dr. Eaton and staff are great. Very little discomfort during or after procedure. My sincere thanks to folks that posted information that gave me confidence to proceed.

regrowth so soon after NA

Had NA
on both hands and the regrowth of the lumps (cords)grew back within two weeks larger and in new places in my palms. The straightening of the left hand from a curling one has stayed straight, but many new itchy and painful cords..my right hand which had been surgically butchered many years ago was straightened out as well, except the pinky, the operated twice, finger....that palm has cords as well. It all depends on the patient and the disease just how rapidly the regrowth occurs. Had the NA just before the first hurricane. What was successful was a steriod shot in my wrist..the painful lump went down and has stayed down. Going again to Dr. Eaton for more of the procedure and hope the regrowth is much slower or not at all. Would like to hear from all who have had NA who took mediation to slow the regrowth and the results. Hope that I'm not in the majority.

NA Eleven Months Ago Today

Hi Paulette:

I posted "Miraculous Change" Nov 13, 2003 and I have created a web site at: http://www.angelfire.com/rings/dupuytrens/

I still have full extension and use in the treated right hand with only a hint of new cords forming.

My left hand has had a cord to the ring finger for more than two years and it has not started to contract; so, I will not have that "NA ed" until it does contract.

Obviously, some patients have longer lasting results than others; but, even if i had to go back for NA twice a year I would do it in a heartbeat. The photos of the "old procedure" are scary .

Insurance

My husband was recently diagnosed with Dupuytrens. Because of this website, we are now seriously considering going to Florida and have contacted Dr. Eaton. Although it appears that the cost of the procedure is not that great, especially when considering what the more invasive surgery costs, we are having problems getting Blue Cross/Blue Shield to commit to whether this is a covered procedure or not.

My husband is 53, and the use of his hands is critical in his business, so we will probably get the NA done regardless. Especially considering that the options after surgery are limited, but it would be nice if our insurance would cover some of the cost.

Have any of you had experience with this problem?

Paula

BCBS

NJ BCBS paid my NA procedure under the following:

CPT code 26040 [Fasciotomy, palmar (eg, Dupuytren's contracture; percutaneous)] is an appropriate code for needle aponevrotomy/aponeurotomy. Another code, 26045, is for the open technique.

Dr Eaton is not a participating doctor with BCBS, so it will pay out of network

Insurance/Newest Paris Trained Dr. in the US

Hi gang! I may be able to help you on this one a little bit.
First, there is another Paris trained Board Certified Hand Surgeon doing dups procedure along with Dr. Eaton at the Hand Center in Jupiter, Fl...Paul Zidel, M.D.

HE MAY BE ON SOME OF THE INSURANCES YOU HAVE...AS HE IS ON MANY INSURANCES...AND A VERY DIFFERENT LIST THAN DR. EATON!
DON'T ASSUME HE ISN'T ON YOUR PROGRAM...IT WOULD PAY TO CALL HIS OFFICE AND INQUIRE 561-746-7686.

I PROBably should have mentioned that when his office manager gave me permission to share the good news about them having another paris trained surgeon on board. I guess
I am still feeling the effects of four back to back hurricanes!

For those who would like to read about the addition of Dr. Zidel , please go back to the "Topic" of the Forum and click
on "You asked for it! You got it!". I think I will also create another topic to refer readers to that topic as some
may not realize that this site makes a great announcement
about the expansion of The Hand Center and the addition of Dr. Zidel;.....who may also be on some insurances that Dr. Eaton is not! It pays to ask!

Also, for those who have BCBS of a particular state...realize that each BCBS is different from state to state. But, for example, if Dr. Zidel is a BCBS provider in Florida(which I understand he is), you MAY be able to "travel" under your PPO plan to Dr. Zidel and have your benefits paid as if you were under your own network.
IMPORTANT! CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE CARRIER AS TO YOUR OPTIONS OUT OF STATE..AND THEN CHECK WITH HIS OFFICE FOR APPOINTMENT AND DISCUSS PAYMENT ACCORDINGLY! iF YOUR WALLET CARD HAS A SUITCASE ON IT(bcbs), THAT MAY INDICATE
YOU HAVE THIS CAPABILITY. BE SURE TO CALL YOUR CARRIER AND DOCUMENT TIME, DATE, AND NAME OF PERSON AND REQUEST A CONFIRMATION NUMBER RELAVENT TO THE CONVERSATION.

I am an insurance agent by profession..but I want to make it clear that I am not giving any advice..but rather ...suggestions....as I only give advice to bona fide
clients with whom I have an established relationship...as you must appreciate in this litigous society!

Well, hope I have helped a bit..and I hope you won't hesitate to inquire at Dr. Zidel's office to see if he is on any of your plans! Maybe this will be the impetus you need to get those hands fixed! I wish for you all..the satisfaction I realized from treatment!

Good luck....and "Hands Down"!

California NA treatment

Good morning,
I think there must be many of us who suffer from DD in California. I have a suggestion. It would be great if each of us from California mailed a letter to Dr. Eaton asking him to establish an office in here. With enough interest, he might consider it. What a blessing it would be for us.

That or

each of you do a mail blitz to all the doctors in your area. I think if one doctor got 10 different letters from 10 different patients....they might listen....particularly if they were all Eaton patients and the procedure was successful.....since we know DC often comes back...it is not unreasonable to still want an NA practitioner in your area.

Anyways...just thowing out some thoughts.

Take care all,

Frances
