Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
I am 26, female, and just told that the lump removed from my hand looked like Dupuytren's Disease. Originally, I was also told that an inclusion cyst was expected to be found. I have had this lump for about a year and a half with no pain, no cord, no problem. I am involved in a motorcycle accident, and after dealing with the sprained tissue, I notice lingering pain.
(Get surgery; long story in between, ect.)
So today, I am out of my "post-op" appointment, being told that it looks like this, but it can't possibly be it because of age/gender/location(of bump). Now I read this, and I am skeptical of my diagnosis.
As for the scar tissue, I use vitamin E oil and a large marble to massage

You said, "I have had this lump for about a year and a half with no pain, no cord, no problem".
That could easily be Dupuytren's.
You said, "but it can't possibly be it because of age/gender/location(of bump)".
That doesn't make sense. Age/gender and location could all apply to Dupuytren's.

Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
Thank you for your response.
The surgeon was the one who told me that it was highly unlikely the case because of all of those factors, and that I will have to let time tell.
I find it really interesting that I am told that this doesn't happen to people under 40, especially females, and then find this site the same day where a 25-year-old male in the USA had exactly the same issues I had with a surgery date 2 weeks before me.
The tests said it was dupuytrens, I am going to seek another medical opinion.

Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
Getting Dupuytren's under 40 is unlikely but it does happen. http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...stribution.html
Even kids can have Dupuytren's: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12703...Pubmed_RVDocSum

Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
As the medical profession become more aware of what they are dealing with I think we are going to find that there are a lot more people where LD and DD shows up under age 40.
I first developed LD when I was about 13 but the doctors didn't know what it was and they operated when I was 15. I now know that I was very lucky not to end up with ongoing problems from the operation and the LD returned where they operated with 2 years. I then developed DD in my late teens but doctors could not tell me what it was. In my case I did not get a proper diagnosis (Despite visits to a number of specialists) until my mid 30's by which time I had DD in both hands and LD in both feet. Of course I was told that the only choice was surgery.
My brother developed LD in one foot in his early 20's and one of my sisters developed DD in one hand in her mid 20's.
In LeeT's case I can only wonder what the doctors were doing operating before they had a proper diagnosis.
LeeT if you do have DD I suggest that you check out options for Needle Aponeurotomy procedure (NA) as dupuytren's is sure to reappear and NA is simple and easy and can be repeated with no scaring.

Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
My name is Nicki, I am 65 year old female, and I had surgery on my left index finger for Dupuytrens Contracture, on September 21,2012. I am wondering if any other women out there had this also? My therapist told me that in her 18 yrs. of work, I am the only woman she has seen! I still am swollen at times, very stiff in the morning, burning sensation on skin--and was told this can happen for up to three months after surgery. Any comparisons ??

Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
Hi Nicki,
welcome to our forum! You are by far not the only woman with Dupuytren's. Dupuytren's typically starts earlier with men but eventually women catch up. The disease develops often more aggressivly with men. You can find more details on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...stribution.html.
Swelling after surgery can carry on for a while. I myself has (light swelling) for 5-6 months. It took my quite while until I was able to make a fist again but eventually everything was OK.

Re: Dupuytren's on palm between thumb and index finger
I am 49 years old and female and have had DD for about 6 years. I was considered to be 'young' when it was diagnosed. It is developing very rapidly in both of my hands. I've had one injection of Xiaflex but so far that has been my only treatment. Almost every woman in my mom's family has had DD.
This forum is a great place to get information and share experiences.
