Graston Technique.
There seems little information available on this techniqe with regard to DC.
If you look back a page or two on the forum subjects you will find some comments from a practitioner of this techniqe although it appears that they have not been let loose on pre op patients. Unfortunately they are not registered so you cannot contact them here.
I believe we should explore all avenues and possibilities prior to opting for surgery.
Best of luck and keep us all informed

Hi handhurt1,

As usual it is all for post op patients which does me little good so I didn't bother to go searching for the posts..

Thanks for posting though.

Loonsong,

It does sound like you may be having more symptoms related to fibro. Do you have osteoarthritis? Are your joints, near the finger tip, larger? It seems you may have a mixture of things going on. If so, you have to be carefull that you aren't making one worse, while trying to help the other.

If you are doing anything which causes you joint pain, you should stop. It is important to keep your strength and range of motion, but you can do that without causing pain or further damage. It also shouldn't require ongoing therapy, but just instruction and follow-up as needed.

If you are having pain while opening lids, etc, have you tried any assistive devices, yet? I have had to do that, myself. I am planning to get some putty. I will get the soft grade, and only exercise within pain tolerance. That is the safest plan, and will avoid any adverse effects.

Beth
Hi Beth,

Although I have wondered about Osteo b/c of the pain in my finger joints sometimes (I take dark cherry concentrate which all but cures them)....there is no significant swelling of any joint but my thumb which hurts the most (mainly in bad weather. This is not on the hand that I can not bend, I can bend this thumb the same amount as the other.

I posted about assistive devices before, you may have missed it, over on Spanish buddha's thread of everyday management of LD.

I don't think I have the soft grade of putty (it is blue) I will check and find out.

Yes fibro does figure into it all of it I am sure.

Thanks for posting.

Sounds like you should go visit a specialist to verify that you have Dupuytrens in the first place. I would not recommend basing a treatment program on the advice of an internist. I made that mistake and will pay the price for the remainder of my life.

If you actually have some form of arthritis the treatment is going to quite different than for Dupuytren's. Get the internist to send you to a hand surgeon with experience with Dupuytren's and preferably with Xiaflex as well.

Hi bstenman,

Well I guess you missed my introduction. I do in fact fact Dupuytren's in both hands three fingers none have contracted. I also have Ledderhosen. Both have been diagnosed by professionals. The dups by a orthopedic specialist and many others since.... The Ledderhosen by a podiatrist. I am fortunate to have so far not experienced contracture.

Just because my fingers have not contracted does not mean I do not have Dupuytren's. There are different stages of the disease. It is possible that they may never contract, that is my hope and this is also what the Dr told me when he examined me, women are less likely to contract too (so he said), so here's hoping....
