I am a 67 year old female who got hit by a car in January resulting in a broken left wrist followed by surgery, plate and screws. After I was out of the cast, I started PT and was seeing the therapist about once a week. Among other things, she was manipulating my hand to loosen it up. I had been complaining of stiff fingers and difficulty sometimes closing my hand all the way but I had no obvious nodules. Litterally overnight I developed the hard cords through the palm which startled the PT on the next visit. A week earlier the palm had been soft and pliable.

I have no involvment in my right hand and no previous history of any kind of tendonites. I have to believe that there is some relationship to the wrist injury although the literature seems mixed on injury as a cause. Anyone else have a similar experience? Knowing it does not change it, but I am pursuing an insurance claim and Dupuytren's clearly will be with me in some form or another for the rest of my life.

I appreciate having found the forum and hope to benefit from the experience of others.

Hope you are correct. Only seen GP so far who is referring me on. Sure looks like it, however.

I you are predisposed to Dupuytren's already minimal trauma might trigger it: the edge of my night splint pressed slightly into the skin. This didn't even feel uncomfortable but within just a few months I developed Dupuytren's all along this edge.

While on a trip in Europe I fell on the sidewalk and put out my right hand to break the fall and not land on my face...wound up with a broken ring finger...A couple of years after this fall, I developed DD in my right pinky...I believe its accident related....... although it must also be genetic and predisposition too, since my older sister also developed DD after I got it.
