Addenbrooke's UK

Hello I am David from the U.K. I have my first appointment at the hospital today at Addenbrooke’s in Cambridgeshire. I have DD in both hands. The left is at stage 3 to 4 and my right has nodules with no contracture. It is a bit late as I am going today but could any of you please advise me on what questions I should ask the doctor and has anybody on the forum attended this hospital for DD. Thank you in advance. David

Re: Addenbrooke's UK

Just don't accept surgery as the only treatment to consider. If alternatives like needle aponevrotomy and radiation therapy aren't discussed with you, be sure to ask about them. Go to the left side of this page and read about those treatments. Go with as much knowledge as you can so that you will be able to ask questions. You might even take the URL address to this website to give to them in case they don't know about the alternative treatments.

Good luck and let us know how your appointment goes.

Re: Addenbrooke's UK

Thank you Flojo for your response. I have just got back from the hospital and I have excepted there advice for the surgery for the left hand but It is not looking good. I have got an infection in my little finger due to the closed joint of that finger and plus they said that my knuckle joints are locked and the surgery will not bring them back to normal but will improve the situation. So I think I am in a bit of a shock. Plus I did go forearmed with all the information from this forum. My right hand with the nodules they will not touch as the contraction has not yet started. I am not happy but I will see how I feel in the morning. Thanks again. David

Re: Addenbrooke's UK

What I would be asking is have they considered radiotherapy (clearly not for you bad hand but the one without contraction without a doubt) for dupuytren's disease? Do they know that it is used on the NHS or that NICE are currently looking into radiotherapy as a standard treatment? Radiotherapy now might save you from future surgery or major problems on that good hand.

I live 30 miles from Addenbrookes but have made three trips to Poole (Nov 08, Jan & March - not the best time of year for the drive & stay) and am due to go to clinic again in 3 weeks. I'm sure that Addenbrookes have the equipment and staff to provide the service, I'd ask if I was you

If they say that they haven't considered it or wouldn't use it then ask why
