Did you have surgery on the thumb?

Re: Anyone have DC in web between thumb and index finger?

When I put my hands together and stretch out both hands as much as I can, my right thumb tip has about 1 1/2 to 2 inches less span than the tip of my left hand. The shorter span is between my forefinger and my thumb. I don't feel any nodules in the web, but there are nodules at the base of my thumb.
I had not found anything about the thumb other than it is rare for DD to affect the thumb.

Hi!

I have a very fine cord in at the bottom edge of the webbing between my thumb and my index finger on my left hand. It is most noticable when the hand is stretched. There is not apparent nodule, just a cord.

It hasn't given me any trouble or caused any loss of mobility. I had radiation therapy, finishing up in November.

No, I never had surgery on my hands and hope to use any other alternative to surgery.

I was diagnosed with Dupuytren's shortly after noticing a nodule in the palm of my right hand about 4 months ago. Since that time, I have noticed a cord or band running in teh webbing between the base of my thumb and the base of my index finder on BOTH of my hands. I had Dr. Hidlreth in Houston (who is trained in NA by Dr. Eaton) give me my first steroid injection in the nodule but nothing was recommended yet about those cords because there is no contraction yet. You can bet I am going to keep an eye on the damn things!

Hi I have cords on both hands between thumb and finger,no contraction as yet. The growth has been very fast, I have just completed radiation treatment in Poole, Dorset. My hands have always been very painful, with bazaar synptons. I am very confused with this desease, and do not feel very positive at the moment regarding the radiation outcome.

Please post further observations about your hands following the radiation therapy. I had NA done and it was successful for the cords even though there was little contracture. I have many nodules in my right palm and may be a candidate for radiation therapy. Dr. Denkler who did my NA said that radiation therapy has shown that it slows the progression. I am hesitant about it also, so I hope to hear how your hand does as time goes on. I hope it will stop or slow the progression of your Dupuytren's.

Re: Anyone have DC in web between thumb and index finger?

Australia Calling , Hi flojo.
I 've had surgery on the thumb and index fingers of both hands. I have had skin grafts on both joints of the thumb (joint next to palm) On my left hand I had an extensive graft in the web area.
In June 07 I had a repeat surgery on both the thumb and index finger of the right hand. (right handed)
Within 4 weeks I developed a series of lumps (nodules) in the web and on the thumb joint . My left index suddenly developed a nodule as well. Up to this point, I was told I had Dupuytren's in an aggresive form and I will have surgery for the rest of my days . ( I 've had 15 surgeries including 4 grafts.) I had also developed knucle pads and Ledderhose in one foot. Thank God I found the Dupuytren Society .
Within a month I was in Germany and met Prof. Seegenschmiedt and undertook radiotherapy on both hands and both feet. The interesting thing is that the area of my right hand only required half the protocol of treatment of 15 Gy. The nodules disappeared, the keloids shrunk ,the pain and that 'funny itchy growing feeling' also stopped. The left index finger had the 30 Gy. The nodule has stopped growing, but did not diminish. DO NOT WAIT TOO LONG. THE SMALLER THE NODULE THE EASIER TO TREAT. Overall I am happy with the Radiotherapy treatment. Regards.

Re: Anyone have DC in web between thumb and index finger?

Thanks, Newman, for the update. It sounds encouraging.

I don't know what you call it, but the 2nd knuckle from the end of my thumb where the web attaches to the thumb seems enlarged compared to that knuckle on my left thumb. It appears somewhat like an arthritic knuckle, but I have my suspicions that it is Dupuytren's. Can you describe the nodules on your thumb knuckle? Like, why did you think or know that it was Dupuy nodules on the knuckle and not something else like arthritis?

This is some weird stuff!!

Re: Anyone have DC in web between thumb and index finger?

Hi Bob,

I've got DC in both hands between thumb and index finger. Had my left hand operated on 3 weeks ago and now the stitches are out I have a lot more movement, it doesn't look very pretty yet, but appears to have been a success. My right hand is approaching stage 2 but very slowly. I think I'll probably get a couple of years out of it before it starts becoming an annoyance, so unless there is a breakthrough down the line I will probably opt for surgery again.

Good luck

Skyvan
