Back to the Forum, need ins info on radiation and xiaflex

Hi All, been away from the forum for a number of months. Used to post under the name DianeS. Decided i could maybe have a slightly more creative handle. new computer and all that too.
Anyway, thanks to the work of the wizard of Larkspur, a/k/s the excellent Dr. Denkler, my dups had remained pretty stable and he had injected a few nodules and things were pretty good even though it showed up in my right hand which i was hoping it wouldn't after nearly 10 years in only left hand. so now i am getting another nodule and a couple of cords in right hand though no contractures. I am planning on going to Denker for a consult and kind of try to develop a game plan on what to do about this to keep disease at bay. Thinking radiation might be the thing. So does Blue Cross usually cover this or not? What about xiaflex? I am sorry is this info has been posted before and direct me to the thread it it has. I know there are a number of US places that do the radiation but I am in a more remote area and am going to try to see if I can get a local radiologist to see if they will do it based on the published protocols. Could go to SF but its 5 hour drive. Any info and thoughts appreciated. I see the treatment codes posted on some threads which i will copy. thanks. rakuku

Re: Back to the Forum, need ins info on radiation and xiaflex

My BCBS covered it. I own my own policy and have Blue Advantage. It covered it because I did not go to a hospital setting and went to an office that was offsite. Southeast Radiology had several offices and I chose the one that insurance covered as an office visit (paid my co-pay). If I had gone anywhere near the hospital it would have been applied to my deductible. As it was I paid for an MRI, because my BCBS says anything diagnostic (MRI, CAT, x-ray, ETC..) has to be preapproved and and then is applied to deductible. After that all was covered, except for co-pays. Southeast did check with BCBS and verified my cost and checked to make sure the CPT codes they used were going to be covered. I knew within $100.00 what I would have to pay for the treatment.

As it was I paid under or around $250.00 for everything except for the MRI, and that includes 3 follow up visits.

Hope this helps, and I can repeat the codes that were used if you can not find my codes on another thread.
