Been Away from Here. Dups has grown back after surgery
Hello,
It's been a couple of yrs since I've been on this site. I had surgery on my Dups in 2009 (little finger, mid joint). It was at 60% bent. Well, the finger never healed properly and about 1 yr after the surgery, I noticed a new nodule in my palm and a chord growing right next to the scar. Now my finger is bent again (same - 60%). This time I'm considering Xiaflex. Am wondering if it can work what with scar tissue and all. I haven't ye seen my Dr. I'm afraid my ins might not cover it (haven't called). I just wanted to put the question out to you all to get your opinion.
Thanks
P.S. New site looks great!

Re: Been Away from Here. Dups has grown back after surgery
If you have a clearly defined cord then Xiaflex should be able to help. But I think the scar tissue would be a concern as Xiaflex also acts upon that, especially if it's quite hard and likely to rupture at the surface. So the Doctor would have to advise after an examination. Seek out a Doctor who has quite some experience of using Xiaflex.

Thank you, Spanish Buddha (?), for your answer. My doctor happens to be on the Xiaflex website as a doctor who actively uses it so I will give him a call. I appreciate your input.

Re: Been Away from Here. Dups has grown back after surgery
I will consider Xiaflex if/when my hand begins to contract. Every hand is different. Definitely both of mine are different. If my DD becomes aggressive, Xiaflex may be the better option, but at this point, I would choose to have NA periodically as needed. I don't wait for a great deal of contracture - about 10-20 degrees and I'm on top of it.
