Glucosamine and DC
Hi All,
I have read elsewhere about the possible connection between glucosamine and DC.
For around 2 or 3 years prior to my diagnosis of DC I was taking glucosamine every day to try to alleviate a problem with my knee. Then whamo, DC! No one else to my previous knowledge had DC in my family tree however my mum tells me she now has Ledderhose like symptoms and her sister, my aunt, sits on her hands to try to straighten her fingers! Of course I have told them what I know about these conditions and even put the DC site as a link in Mum's favourites on her computer.
Is there a connection? Any thoughts or evidence between this now commonplace 'vitamin pill' (don't know what collective group to put glucosamine in) and DC would be appreciated.

Re: Glucosamine and DC
Hi stomo, you can use the search function of this forum, which will yield quite an amount og posts. And you might have a look at http://www.dupuytren-online.info/morbus_dupuytren.html (you need to scroll pretty much down the page).

Re: Glucosamine and DC
I've had DC since 1970, but it was quiescent from my last surgery (in 1991) until recently. During the quiescent period I took glucosamine for extended periods of time and during these periods there was no change in my DC. (I can't be sure about my foot nodules as I have never paid much attention to them, but noticed recently that they have spread extensively, although they cause no problem except for occasional minor discomfort: they have not affected foot function.)
I have not taken any glucosamine for months now. Recently (some time after stopping taking glucosamine), the contracture has increased in my left forefinger, but not in my left hand, where 3 fingers are affected.
