Re: Just diagnosed - treatment options in UK?

I'm weighing up the possible benefits against the possible risks and I can't see any reason why I shouldn't go for RT. There seems to be about a 75% chance of improvement - slowing down or stopping progression from the nodule stage - against a very small and theoretical risk of sarcoma in 20 or 30 years time.

I can't see why the local hospital is so set against RT. It seems to be the only sensible treatment at the nodule stage, and the downside is not significant - and one that I am happy to accept. I presume it's inertia and a reluctance to take on new ideas, or else the natural tendency to defend an established and entrenched position.

I will investigate whether the clinics listed here might take an NHS referral. I suppose I can always step outside the NHS system and pursue the idea of treatment in Germany, but I cannot logically see why in the light of the NICE guidance there is a problem in getting NHS treatment. I'll certainly keep everyone informed of progress.

I went through the same thought process. I was very concerned about the possible risks associated with RT but the risk of taking no action was more worrying as the prospect of letting someone loose on my hand with a knife (unlikely to be a one time fix all) was not going to happen. So I took the RT route 3 years ago with great success and trusted the doctor who I don't believe would use RT recklessly.
