Re: Knuckle pads

I've had Dupuytren's on both hands. I had unsuccessful surgery on my left ring and pinky fingers in 2005 - my scaring left me without the ability to make a fist or close my hand with those fingers. I now have knuckle pads on most of my right hand, and just came from a very lousy appt with Dr. Koprowski at Christina Hospital in Newark Deleware. His team surgeon told me that my knuckle pads could not possibly be Dupuytren's. He refused to believe that the disease could present itself this way. I am so angry right now I could scream. It's one thing to have a disease, it's another thing to go to an 'expert' and be told that all my other diagnosis and treatments were wrong. My advice if you are on the east coast is to skip Deleware and go to Dr. Weiss at VCU in Richmond.

If you're seeing a doctor, you want a certified hand surgeon. They should be familiar with the disease.

Re: Knuckle pads

Dealer, Don't blame you for being upset, but that's the way it is. It has become my mission to educate/train every doctor and anyone else that I come in contact with. Most only know the "traditional" treatments. We need to get all forms of treatment well known and made part of "the standard of care" for Dupuytren's.

Re: Knuckle pads

Flojo - thanks for your encouragement, I appreciate it. I'm just so burned at being told that my knuckle pads are not Dupuytren's. At least I know for sure that Dr. Koprowski and Dr. Taylor at the Christiana Hospital's Helen Graham Cancer center are not qualified to treat my hands. I'll head back to VCU and Dr. Elizabeth Weiss, she knows her stuff.

Re: Knuckle pads

Take the ferry from Lewes to Cape May, and go up the parkway to Eatontown, NJ to Dr. Gary Pess.

Re: Knuckle pads

Ann Funny you should mention knuckle pads. After a few months being told I had DD formed a kp on my right
index finger. It hurts worse then the DD nodules. I have been looking for a Dr. to do RT in Knoxville, TN but so far no luck. The Dr. I went to only does the surgery and said "we will watch it". No thank you------want to get it treated ASAP.
Just wanted to share.
