Knuckle Pads and Peyronies
Looking for some advice. About 7 years ago when I was 34, I developed Peyronie's and had several calcifications in my penis that were painful. The condition lasted for a couple of years but then suddenly went into remission. Most of the calcifications went away, although I have one or two that seem to have remained, but they do not cause me any pain or curvature.
I later found out about the correlation between Dupuytren's and Peyronies and discovered that my grandfather on my mother's side had Dupuytren's, and now my FATHER has it, which means I have it on both sides of the family.
Last year I developed pain in two of my PIP joints (middle and ring finger on left hand) after playing a bit too much Guitar Hero. Yes, I'm 41 but play Guitar Hero. After I stopped playing my knuckles did not improve, and after going through months of physical therapy, I found out about something called knuckle pads, which appears to be exactly what I have. They are painful to bend and to the touch and have nodules on top. Some days they are more painful than others, but I can't figure out why. It definitely seems that they were brought on by Guitar Hero, but probably because I was predisposed.
So now I'm terrified about my future, having had two conditions related to Dupuytren's. Does anyone have any advice? I'd like to see a doctor who knows something about it, because until I just self-diagnosed, nobody has been able to put the pieces together. Any advice, suggestions would be great. I live in NC near Duke, so I'm hoping there is a specialist in this area. I don't even know what type of specialist I would go to! Thanks!
