Female Teenager Diagnosed with Dupuytren's Syndrome

So...Hi everyone,
I'm a 16 year old girl from the USA and last Wednesday I was diagnosed with Dupuytren's. When researching the weird bump that 'appeared' on my hand last summer, I came upon this but disregarded it when I saw that it was primarily a geriatric condition common in men. So, I think I'm struggling to understand how I developed this right below my middle finger on my left hand (which btw I read that you're half as likely to get it on your left than on your right). I understand that it's not malignant, and thats good, but what does this mean for my future? Thankfully we caught it early, or at least the surgeon removed it (thinking it was a cyst) soon enough. Am I going to have it again in the future? I also read that Women are more likely to have post-operative complications... My wound is healing relatively well but I have so many questions.
Please help me. Thank you.

Re: Female Teenager Diagnosed with Dupuytren's Syndrome

Hi Ellagance. Sorry to hear your story. Young people often get cysts, or juvenile fibromas in their hands and wrists and it can be difficult to differentiate from DD, even after a lab analysis. There are Drs who have experience in helping children and young people with DD and you should seek them out, if not done so already. It is a genetic condition, many people gets lumps and nothing else, but people who get it at a younger age may have a more aggressive form. It is difficult to predict your outcome, maybe nothing further will develop, until later, or even ever, or maybe the surgery will promote a flare of new growth. There is no cure, but treatments to restore hand function, and radiation therapy to slow down progression, although you are probably too young. Hopefully you will recover from surgery, and that’s it nothing else. Or it might develop slowly over years with just minor annoyance of lumps in the hands. It’s difficult to predict. Read up on the treatments available, take care of your hands, avoid the known risk factors, and get on with your life. Starting point to read about the condition here https://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuyt...ontracture.html
