Happy with NA

I just had NA with Dr. Atik in Central New Jersey. It was done on my right hand on four fingers. The pinkie had the pip problem . What an amazing experience. I drove my gear shift the day after NA. I am very happy with the way my hand looks and works. I can't wait to have the other hand done .
My fingers are black and blue and I am doing the stretching exercises they recommended. I am also wearing a night brace for several weeks, but there is no pain and there will be no need for therapy. Yippee
I am so glad I did some research online and found NA.
When I consulted a hand surgeon in early August, he told me I needed open hand surgery on all four fingers and would need therapy etc once the four hour operation was over. He said that he had never heard of NA. Is that actually possible??? The operation included the use of skin grafts for the poor pinkie and recovery time of 2-3 months.

Re: Happy with NA

Hi Syb, unfortunatyle this is possible ... to improve the long term result of your your NA you might consider wearing a night splint for 6 or more months. That would help. As several of your fingers are involved the night splint shown at the bottom of http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...techniques.html might bee a good choice.

Re: Happy with NA

Is it common to have NA on four fingers in one procedure?

Re: Happy with NA

My thumb and little finger plus some other cords in my hand were treated the same day. My understanding was that one whole hand would be done at the same time. I did not have severe contracture and it was all in the palm or MCP joints, no DIP or PIP joints. I don't know that it made any difference though.

Re: Happy with NA

Dr Atik said it was possible to do all four fingers at once and the results of my hand are amazing. The black and blue is faded and my hand and fingers are only a tiny bit stiff in the morning. I can't wait to get my other hand done.
Thanks for the input about the splint.
