    What is a segmental fasciectomy? I have heard (and researched, Moermans) the terms segmental fasciotomy and segmental aponeurectomy (the cutting of the cord in several places without removing diseased tissue).

    Callie, that might be just a question of terminology. Probably it is Moermans' (or Vilain's) type of surgery. Moermans calls it an aponeurectomy, it might also be called a fasciotomy because the cord is cut or a fasciectomy because a part of the cord is being removed. "The basic postulate of this operation is that, if we can create a permanent discontinuity in the retracted aponeurotic band without wide dissection of the fascia itself, then the retracted band, from which tension has been eliminated, will disappear or at least cease to act as a contracture." (Moermans).

    The procedure done in Feb was called a fasciectomy on paper but really a small cut of the skin and cord cut and a small amount of cord removed. Not a text book segmental fasciectomy, more like a glorified fasciotomy with a small amount of cord removed, only 3 stitches. This was not what was discussed prior to the procedure... hence why I've sought out another doctor.

    You (and everyone) might be interested in the following study from Dr. Moermans, "Place of Segmental Aponeurectomy in the Treatment of Dupuytren's disease". I copied it several years ago and often refer to it.

    Note that the chapter titles are active and can be clicked on for considerable additional information.
