NA with Dr. Denkler

I will have NA done by Dr. Denkler next Monday, 3/16. After consultation with my GP, research about RT and consultation with Dr. Denkler by email, I'm sure that NA is what I need now. Dr. Denkler responded quickly to several emails and gave me contact information for a clinic in San Francisco for RA if that's what I decided on. Since I have very little contracture except in my thumb, I wondered about that and even though I already have my appointment with him, I emailed
and asked if there were any special factors with the thumb. He emailed back this,
"Hi,
I will evaluate your thumb.
I have released hundreds of thumb Dupuytren's. I am very comfortable treating yours.
I also have repaired thumb nerve injuries and removed splinters etc. because of trauma.
Keith"
I have received answers to all my questions. Dr. Denkler is recognized for his work with Dupuytren's, has a Certification of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand 1992-2002 and his vitae shows how well trained he is. By the way, he bills under Medicare. I feel very confident. I've researched alternative treatments and everything possible about Dupuytren's and the doctors who treat it. I am sure this is the procedure that I need at this time. I won't ever have surgery, so I'm going to keep on top of this so that it will never get that bad.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: NA with Dr. Denkler

Successful NA! It was a piece of cake! I couldn't believe it only took 20-30 minutes. I had 4 fingers involved at Stage 1 with my thumb the most involved. My pinkie and thumb are straight. There was not yet any contracture in my ring finger or middle finger, but the beginning of a cord in each.

Dr. Denkler is exceptionally qualified, much more than I knew. He used to do the full surgery and is fully capable, but he offers us NA rather than the invasive surgery. I appreciate him and the other few doctors in the USA who are willing to offer alternatives. There may be people whose disease has gone beyond what NA can fix, but I'm going to keep on top of mine and get NA again or whatever else and try to never reach the stage where surgery is the only option. He thinks that collagenase might be out next year.

Dr. D is going to present a paper next week at a hand surgeon's conference in Palm Springs. He said that after he presents it, he'll get in touch with Wolfgang and put it on this site. Watch for it! He seems to keep up with all procedures for Dupuytren's.

My gauze bandage is still on, but I'll take it off tomorrow morning and use antibiotic ointment and bandaids. I'll keep you posted on how it goes, but right now, no pain, no discomfort, nothing. I literally have to consciously make myself not lift or do more than I'm supposed to do.

Re: NA with Dr. Denkler

Hi
Yesterday I had NA with Dr. Atik in New Jersey. I can drive today and I washed my face without gouging out my eye with my pinkie. Best thing I ever did. The hand surgeons I went to last month had not even heard of NA. Thank goodness for internet research. NA is the only way to go.
