Normal Activities
I've noticed that recently whenever I do anything I start thinking about whether or not I should be doing what I'm doing because I don't know if it will affect the Dupytrens disease.
Some of the things I've done are simple things like driving the car. I usually do this with just my right hand - the hand affected by DC. It would be when I'm turning the wheel and can feel the pressure on the palm of my hand where the nodules are located. Another activity that made me stop and think was when I was playing volleyball. After I would hit the ball or high five someone with my right hand, I started to wonder if the pounding could affect the DC growth.
Do you know if normal activities like these can affect the growth of DC?

Re: Normal Activities
Don't let DC spoil your life! That would really be the worst thing that Dupuytren's can do to you. Normal activities don't influence Dupuytren's, just keep living as you like. Now, if you consider heavy drinking, rock climbing, or using a pneumatic drill daily as "normal activities", the picture might change a little. But the typical day to day things, like driving a car, are no problem at all.

how does heavy alcohol use effect DC. I am seeing this on other areas of research

It's not a "proven" theory as far as I know, but from my limited research many doctors have found that most DC sufferers are heavy smokers and/or drinkers. They cannot prove there is a direct link, but they're suspect. I happen to be of mostly Irish descent. Apparently, if you are of Northern Euorpean descent, you may be pre-disposed to the condition. Some docs call it the "Viking Disease."
Now, I'm a pretty heavy beer drinker and smoker, but I developed DC in my late teens (before I really drank or smoked).
Who knows?
Best to you.

Similar here. My mum's English but my dad was Irish apparently descended from Scottish Pirates. That makes me a good candidate for DC I suppose although I know of nobody on my dad's side who had DC. My mum has but she's as English as the day is long
I don't drink heavily and don't smoke.

Please understand I'm new to this forum and have recentlly started research on this disease. Those are just my amatuer-ish researcher thoughts.
There are many individuals on this forum who are far-better informed.

Hello Trev,
As I said I'm mostly Irish, but my Grandmother from my father's side was 100% English. The other part of me is mixed German and Hungarian. I'm a total mutt! Ha!
Yeah, there's a chart here somewhere that shows 51% (or so) of all DC sufferers are of Irish/English/Scottish descent. I'm not quite sure why it's often referred to as the "Viking Disease" with those statistics however.

Dupuytren's and countries
Dupuytren's is much wider spread than the Vikings ever went. The highest prevalence I have ever seen seems to be in the non-Muslim population of Bosnia, not a typical Viking country. Also the disease seems to be frequent e. g. in Japan. See also http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...stribution.html.
