Re: Radiation-different treatment plans

Allisun, I called the doc in Oklahoma; they were the ones who I went to for the treatment. His response was "We can do a second round, but we don't like to." Since I already had 7 treatments of 3gy I was paranoid to get more. From my understanding the second round comes in with people who got a lower dose at first. Also, it appears that since the radiation therapy, my hands have gotten worse much rapidly than they did before. Probably just the natural progression, but they have certainly hurt more since the radiation treatment.

Re: Radiation-different treatment plans

Paula, that is really interesting to hear beacuse the assistant basically said the opposite. She said that their typical treatment is the 7 doses in 5 days, and they have repeated that a second time for several people, she made it sound like it wasn't a big deal at all. I wonder why what she has to say is so different from the doctor, makes me want to call back and ask.

So did you go in for 4 days one week and 3 days the next? I find it strange that they did your treatment like that. Why not 10 days of treatments.

Yeah, I was treated Tues-Fri and then Mon-Wed. I was given the option to get some treatments and then come back x weeks later (don't remember the details) but I didn't take that as it wasn't convenient for me to travel. Dr. Weiss was trained in Germany and seems to have had quite a few Dup patients, so I am still hoping for the best about her recommendation to go for another round, I just don't want to travel back down there so will try to coordinate something with an oncologist in nyc who is still new.

The German Protocol from the randomized study designed by Prof. Seegenschmiedt (now in Hamburg)
has the following concept:

7 x 3Gy (3 treatments per week, e.g. Monday, Wednesday, Friday) within 2 weeks, but NO SECOND SERIES,

thes stated sligthly higher acute reactions with this concept compared to 5 x 3Gy in two rounds separated by 3 months ....
